It's been a rite of passage for many a new driver - lessons taken with mum or dad in the passenger seat as you gingerly take the wheel for the first time.
But it's not a 'right' of passage any more with local police warning that if they spot someone simply getting experience before their (delayed) test they'll treat it as non-essential travel and deal with it accordingly.
QLocal's Roger Blaxall spoke to an Ormskirk bobby yesterday and mentioned he had seen a lady on L plates driving a silver Peugeot 208 around Aughton at teatime accompanied by a dad or brother.
"I'll have words with anyone in the same position," said the officer.
"It's clearly non-essential travel."

At least the roads are quieter for a learner to gain some experience,at the present time, and IF they are only out on the roads, with a qualified passenger, and out to do some ESSENTIAL shopping, then why should they be stopped from doing so ? As said..as long as they ARE out driving to ONLY be going to the shops, and NOT for a drive out around the area.

The roads are very empty. There are lots of bikes, good for them.
Why do they still ride on the pavements, when there are less vehicles on the road?

Because they don't give a toss for anyone or anything but themselves when I was a kid if you rode on the pavement you were a jessie, plus the fact that Police actually did their job and you'd end up in court.
