This week saw a new innovation as it was set aside for matches played in the Kenney Cup 2nd Round. With only three matches scheduled to reduce the number of teams to eight for the quarter-finals, it saw many sitting out this time around although it gave eight sides a chance to play their outstanding league fixtures, which they all did, and bring the league programme completely up-to-date.

Kenney Cup 2nd Round

The first match played saw an absolute cracker as Maghull RBL B prevail by the narrowest of margins as they beat their opponents, Skelmersdale Wardens B 4-3 on the final black ball in that required seventh play-off frame. Maghull B's captain, Alan Wilcox Jnr, was the hero for his team and it sealed them a place in the quarter-final draw.

Scarisbrick NSC put their disappointing league form well and truly behind them as they probably produced their best performance of the season with an excellent 5-1 triumph at the expense of Skelmersdale Wardens A and a safe passage into the next round of the competition.

The other match scheduled for this week between St Cuthberts of Division One and Second Division Farmers Club will be contested this coming Monday.

The following five sides in Southport Conservative Club, Maghull RBL A, Rainford X SSC, Skelmersdale Wardens C & Aughton Institute C all received byes into the last eight draw.

Division 1

As a result of the week being solely for cup action, the four teams who had an outstanding fixture took the opportunity to play those two matches in the First Division of the Ormskirk & District Amateur Snooker League.

Firstly, it saw Maghull RBL A clash against Olympic BC and at the end of the evening it was the Maghull A outfit notch up a resounding victory as they recorded a 6-0 demolition to move into second position in the league table just a single point behind the pace-setters. This outcome was the Maghull A team's seventh success out of eight matches played to date and they will surely be in the mix come the business end of the campaign.

The other match played saw Crosby Village SC go into battle with Aughton Institute E and after a night of hard fought snooker it was the Crosby Village side who came out on top with a 4-2 win over their opponents. The result sees the Crosby outfit move into third place in the standings and sit just two points off the leaders, the Aughton E team drop into fifth slot but lie only three points off top spot.

Division 2

With the week taken up with the Kenney Cup Second Round, the four teams involved in the two outstanding matches in Division Two took the opportunity to play them.

The first match saw Aughton Institute D and Lathom & Burscough RBL go into battle and at the end of the evening it was the Aughton D outfit who comprehensively came out on top with an excellent 5-1 triumph. This result sees them move into second position in the league standings, just three points off the leaders.

The second match played saw another Aughton 'Derby' match. This time it was promoting chasing, Aughton Institute B taking on struggling Aughton Institute C and it saw a surprising result in some degree as the Aughton C side prevailed 4-2 over their club compatriots, Aughton B. The outcome sees Aughton Institute B drop into third place but the result was enough to see the Aughton C team lift themselves off the foot of the table.
