Parking availability in Ainsdale during the busy summer months has frequently been an issue, with roads filling up as people travel to our sea front, a popular beauty spot in Merseyside.
Charges for parking on Ainsdale beach, which were reintroduced, last year may go some way to reducing the scale of the problem, but many would like to see the beach made more available at the same time.
This could be even more important this year than in previous years, lockdown restrictions now look set to be relaxed and seaside towns across the country could be busier than ever as people jump to take advantage of the freedom.
Conservative Candidate for Ainsdale, Michael Shaw, had this to say;
“We need to see more imagination from the Council on how we can increase the availability of parking around Ainsdale beach.
We should expect that whenever lockdown restrictions are lowered, people will rush to organise ‘staycations’ for themselves and their family, this summer and likely for the next couple of summers as well.
I would like to Ainsdale front developed in order to make way for a car park, and if possible, additional facilities such as a cafe, public toilets and such.
I’m delighted to note that £380k of new funding was recently announced for the purposes of revitalising Ainsdale sea-front and I hope we get to see some of it used for the purpose of expanding parking availability for our beach.
In the short term additional signage indicating resident-only parking on Chatsworth Avenue, and other nearby roads, may be necessary and I would like to see the Council work with local residents to address their concerns.”

Conservative Candidate Michael Shaw, I didn't know we had any Conservative Councillors in Ainsdale, if we do, they are very conspicuous by their absence.
Oh wait, we're having an election, so they're suddenly coming out of the woodwork.
I'm sure the residents in Chatsworth ROAD will be very please that he doesn't know their road exists....

Every property in Chatsworth Road has a driveway, off road parking and many have garages. Why does the road need to be reserved for residents too?
If you don't want visitors parking legitimately on the highway don't live near a beach.
Is the candidate trying to introduce measures that would put people off visiting?

The beach end of Chatsworth Road (and Westminster Drive, Stratford Close, Greyfriars Road etc.) get so clogged with selfishly parked cars on sunny days now that people can't get off their drives as they can't swing out for cars parked right up to the dropped kerb and also directly opposite. My sister-in-law has been stuck unable to get her car out to take her dad to hospital and had to ask her brother to take time off work to take him instead. These selfish parkers also leave rubbish - including smashed bottles, dirty nappies, food waste and dog poo bags - outside people's houses, even throwing it over garden walls. One lady had to chase off some lads who were peeing against her garden wall. None of this is acceptable.
Anyone who wants to visit the beach is very welcome, so long as they park at the beach, behave in a civilised manner and take their rubbish home with them.
