People are always moaning about the lack of Police on our streets.

This is the 56 mile route two local officers covered in a marked police van from and back to Southport Police station last night.

So the drove around, but what did they respond to and deal with, if it was nothing it was a waste of at least one officers time.

Its probably best they are out there at night with people pinching things out of sheds and cars, the whole trip would have only cost a tenner in fuel and if there's two of them they can share the parking fine.

I don't think anyone unhappy at a lack of police is going to be satisfied to know there's a grand total of 2 officers in 1 van driving around.

I think people would be astounded if they knew how many Police officers were covering the Town on a regular basis. I knew a Bobby who worked one of the roughest parts of Merseyside and he told me there were 4 officers at night on a bigger patch than Southport. If people think when they phone 999 the Police Station has a multitude of Bobbies waiting for the call they are sadly mistaken. Waiting for back up coming from Maghull Formby Bootle Liverpool and all points South is not awe inspiring.
But with the Austerity Cuts to all and sundry natural selection will see off some of the less able and save the Pension/Social Security/disability payments so that the Rich can benefit from more tax cuts. So it's not all bad.

Yes - my family have spoken to a few over the recent years and they are just as frustrated as we are ! Two on each night have to deal with a constant stream of calls - they say they have too much work to handle and too few officers to deal with it all !

Coincidently, this would equate approximately to two round trips to Copy Lane, the nearest custody suite.
