I doubt the shops were best pleased about the elongated closure of Lord Street.
That pic shows a ghost town! Although the pics of the switch-on show that there were plenty of folk around then.

The timetable of events was known to all well before today.
I know a few business people on Lord St and all to happy to have this type of event to bring trade in, one way or another.
If you have to shut a road off obviously it will seem vacant for a time, planning etc, FFS do we have to spell everything out.

The big problem for Southport is that there isn't really a decent alternative to Lord Street.... for through traffic.

Better well said, now we have to campaign to reopen Chapel Street the biggest "Rape" of a Town Centre if ever I saw.
St Helens, Wigan, Leigh, Bolton, Preston, etc etc etc as soon as you take bustling traffic out of a town you get the "Faceless" entities we have now!
If its so called dangerous then learn how to behave in a public area with moderate "risk" ie cars, buses.
