Police reported at around 9am Sunday morning ... We currently have a road closure in place on Hesketh Lane, Taleton, Between Firbank Avenue and Gorse Lane, in both directions.

This is due to a road traffic collision. The road will be shut for some time.
Please find alternative routes where possible.

Sounds bad, let's hope it's not another vulnerable road-user down.

I make my comment because, with the roads being quiet, Sunday mornings are a favourite time for cyclists to get out with relative safety.

You really are a screwball, you shouldn't be allowed out, on a bike or in your polluting van.

Stop Now! Early information looks like two children have died.

Your pathetic comments are not appropriate.

Very sad if anyone has been killed in any accident, but why do you want the thread closed.? Should we be hiding away and ignoring the carnage that is constantly taking place on our roads.? Or should we be able to voice our concerns in the hope that someone listens and takes action.

We’ve had various deaths on our local roads in recent years, but they’re still happening. When will we see and end to it.?

Blocking people from voicing their freedom of speech isn’t the answer. Concentrate on what the real issues are. Like the driver of a black BMW 1 series I’ve just seen on Marine Drive on her phone pulling out of the car park….. same today as yesterday and tomorrow and day after day…… and the carnage will continue…..

No they don't, as long as they bad mouth car drivers that's how they get their jollies, they don't care about anyone but themselves and cyclists.

Of course I do, why do you think I don’t.? What a ridiculous comment.

Just out of interest, in your opinion, when would be a good time to discuss these issues? Tomorrow? Next week? A month? Or perhaps never?

    Pathetic.

    Not appropriate.

    What rhubarb!
Close the post down to comments once you had incorrectly speculated as to what happened?
One 50 year old male and one 17 month female deceased.
Utterly tragic, sympathy to all the families involved.

Correct. Tinkerbell can make their inappropriate and incorrect assumptions and rumours about this specific incident without respect for facts, but no one else is allowed to discuss the wider issues of general road safety. You couldn’t make it up….

The posters are discussing the generalization of Sunday road usage and are not focusing on the accident; I have no doubt at all that the same posters will respond to such a report with respect once the accurate details of the tragedy, if there has been one, are announced. This is not the Third Reich; you cannot censor free speech.

I've kept my powder dry on this one and tried to give it a good deal of thought before posting.
Those who are defending the right to express an opinion are quite correct however - that right comes with a responsibility to exercise it with due regard to the gravitas associated with the subject matter and - consideration for those who might be distressed by the apparent insensitivity of some comments.

A report of fatalities, especially when it might include the very young, is not - by any stretch of the imagination - the arena for petty point scoring and banal bickering over the same old hackneyed issues.
I have no doubt that PNP's initial comment was intended to draw just such a reation and more fool those who bit but - shame on those who sought to justify the continuing bickering.

We have a very good Forum tab so - if a debate on road safety is what you want - start one there.

PNP - stop posting comments on every single RTA report about 'vulnerable road users'.
Everyone and their dog knows who they are and - by sitting on your hands, you just might stop the ensuing fish wives slanging match from upsetting anyone directly affected by the tragedies.
