A young Ormskirk boy saved his sister from choking - just hours after taking part in a first aid course being held at his school.

Seven-year-old Lucas James, was in the bath with his two-year-old sister, Lillie-Anna, when she began choking on a small toy.

Describing the incident Lucas’ mum says: “I had run the children a sensory bath using Orbeez and Gelli Baff before leaving the room to get towels.

“When I came back just seconds later Lillie-Anna was spluttering and crying.

“Lucas quickly explained that she had one of the Orbeez in her mouth and had started choking.

“Having been on the first aid course that day he immediately smacked her on her back until the Orbeez came out of her mouth.”

Just six hours earlier Lucas had taken part in a first aid course at his school led by ex-army major Jonathan Cunningham MBE.

Jonathan, Managing Director of specialized care consultancy STORM, delivered the course last Friday as part of his role as a Community First Responder for Southport; amazingly he was contacted via text on Saturday morning with a video message from a thrilled Lucas describing how he had saved his sister during their evening bath.

And he was so pleased with Lucas’ amazing reaction to the incident he presented him with a special certificate at his school assembly yesterday morning.
