A Sefton charity is seeking supporters with a head for heights to take part in its latest high-profile fundraising event.
Sefton 4 Good will have a group of volunteers abseiling down the outside of Liverpool’s Anglican Cathedral in August, and is now looking for more brave team members to take part in the 150ft free-fall drop above the vast great west door of the iconic building.
The charity abseil event takes place on Saturday 17th August 2019.
Sefton 4 Good, an initiative set up by Waterloo-based charity Sefton CVS, provides small grants to local voluntary, community and faith groups across Sefton.
Charity staff are hoping for a particularly good response to the daredevil fundraiser, and look forward to welcoming more intrepid volunteers willing to take on the challenge and to seek sponsorship support for their efforts.
Sefton CVS Senior Citizenship and Volunteering Officer, Mike Howlett, commented: “To date we have distributed grants totalling more than £25,000 to more than 40 local organisations.
“From purchasing equipment for groups doing beach cleans to summer breaks for vulnerable children, and buying kitchen equipment for community centres, we have been able to support a wide range of groups across the borough.
“However, we can only do this with the support of volunteers willing to help us raise funds by taking part in events like the cathedral abseil, and to generate sponsorship income from friends and family which added up to more than £2,000 last year,” added Mr Howlett.
One of last year’s participants, Rachael West, said: “I took part in the abseil to face my fear of heights and enjoyed it so much that I’m doing it again this year! It’s great that the money raised helps to support good causes in my local community.”
Anyone who is up for this challenge, and who will be able to raise at least £100 through sponsorship, can contact Mike Howlett on 0151 920 0726 or email info@sefton4good.org.uk.
