Whilst accepting the money has to come from somewhere it would be nice to have an alternative to the current Council Tax system. A local income tax or maybe a more refined version of the Community Charge (Poll Tax) ?
At present the burden falls on householders, not all working adults which would be more equitable.
A proportion of the amount of money piddled down the drain on a Friday or Saturday night would more than pay any shortfall.

Never voted labour in my life but take away about half their cash and how do you maintain essential services for old children etc. Many councils tory and labour are doing this only those few down south who seem to work on a different grant formula will escape. I can't remember a more useless government, opposition and councillors in my lifetime!

LOL, twice the rate of inflation. When was the last time they where allowed to increase council tax.
https://www.theguardian.com/society/...ncial-disaster
Almost all councils (95%) say they are planning to raise council tax this year – a far cry from 2012, when the same proportion froze rates, encouraged by ministers. Many councils plan to increase council tax by 6% in 2018-19 – the maximum allowed – including 3% earmarked to fund social care.
Get a grip on reality.

You keep claiming that, but what about LAST year. I'm certain Sefton put up Council Tax by around 5% then.
So that's 5% last year, 6% this year, and you seem to be suggesting that's perfectly OK. Are you for real?

Gordon Brown was a very competent Chancellor and a fairly useless leader.
If you want financial incompetence I am afraid the record is clear its the Conservatives, they always borrow more and cut without thinking.

He is a "political economist" according to his CV and on the payroll of the TUC. Not seeing him as an objective information source!

No, I've checked and last year's increase was 4.99%. I think you may be thinking of the year before
... so that's increases of 4%, then 5%, then 6% over the last three years. All well above inflation.

So are saying keep council tax the same as it is or in line with inflation and make no attempt to bridge the gap caused by government cuts? Or do you have an alternative?

There is always an alternative, It's called cutting services.
I do how ever stand corrected on no increase. How ever it doesn't take into about the cuts from Westminster.

They are operating within budgets, the trouble is they have statutory duties to fullfill and each year the Government is slashing their contribution of the funding for these services whilst raking in the same amount from National Taxes, it is them who not living within their budgets.

He is quoting fact from Treasury figures not opinion.
Still why let facts get in the way, some attribute Goebbels with "Repeat a lie often enough and it becomes the truth" the Conservatives destroyed this town with ill thought penny pinching and in government they do the same yet some people think they are financially competent.
They aren't and the facts prove it.
Still I am sure messrs Corbyn and Co will find some interesting ways of cocking things up.
