it was all down to the council who sold the sand from the beach to rainfords for many years ,they were told at the time it would damage the beach BUT TOOK NO notice at all just to make a few pounds .one of the main counsellors was your own Ronnie fearn and the liberals who are supposed to be clever people they knew everything ,like all the counsellors that have run this town into the ground,

Absolute rubbish - sand hasn't been excavated for a long time now. The beach is how it is because it is no longer 'managed ' to maintain it in an artificial state due to budget cuts - simples!

Blame the council why don't you?
What don't you understand about costs and ability to afford
maintenance, or are you one of the stay at home state bleeders?
Where you expect everything and entitled to everything and do naff in return.

It's up to the Council to maintain and improve the visitor attractions of Southport. I regularly visit a resort overseas that never had a natural beach but, with a forward-thinking local government in charge, now has beautiful yellow sand for its citizens to enjoy and which attracts hordes of visitors. It isn't good enough just to let the grass and silt take over... but that's all you can expect from Labour in Bootle. No vision and no competence. Southport's attractions are dying one by one (no beach, Lord St largely shabby and vacant shops, parks letting the weeds run rife). This is all the fault of our local government's lack of vision.

No - it's lack of resources because successive Parliaments have choked the life out of Local Authorities. Some people seem to be incapable of grasping this relatively simple point.
Apart from the number of Councillors, which in my opinion is a given, what would be cut to fund maintaining the beach in it's previous artificial state? I wait with baited breath for a flood of sensible or workable proposals.

.......don't suppose the Council could use the fees obtained from beach parking to pay for removal of sand from the sandhills (plenty of it) to improve the beach surface ?

Southports short thinkers are out in force today laying bare their ignorance of the history of sandwinning from our beaches.
There is little natural about our beach more the inevitable outcome of decades of waste from the sand extraction process being washed up on our beaches.
Seftons own research calculated we have lost 2 metres in depth across our beaches the unwanted product from the sand winning plant far exceeding any natural deposition.
Or does anyone think Rainfords et al were looking for mud ?
Find Seftons report for yourselves its out there.
