Of course it's ruddy natural to have mud - we live on the lee shore of a flippin great estuary. The hoofing great river and it's channels, which are no longer dredged, dump the silt along the entire length of it - or is the SSSI at the top end of it a great big Council blag to fool us all?

Fair enough - let the whingers have their way but first - tell us all which service should be cut so that half a dozen or so people will have a few extra yards of 'golden sand' to look at.
You could even say that then, people might come for a beach holiday here - but only if you were certifyably insane.
Tell me how many half decent summers we've had in the last decade - none!
Why would 'miles of golden sand' cause people to come to the wind swept, rain soaked barren expanse of sand some numpties on here deem we should have?

Seftons own research calculated we have lost 2 metres in depth across our beaches the unwanted product from the sand winning plant far exceeding any natural deposition.
Or does anyone think Rainfords et al were looking for mud ?

Find Seftons report for yourselves its out there.
"Seftons own research" do me a favour.

Whatever the tonnage, area or depth of sand taken out over the time Rainford had the rights to extract sand, probably falls well short of what "natural deposition" could do. Just dig a hole on any beach as big as you want and wait and see how long it takes to be filled.

Even if you or the reports are correct........it doesn't bear up anyway. Even if none of the sand had been removed its "STILL" would have been covered by "SILT", there are probably examples all over the country and other parts of the world.

There was no Rainfords around to affect our High Water Mark receding when the tides once lapped against the Prom.

Yes read and quote the reports but they are wrong and no I'm not a Civil engineer just a possess a basic understanding of Nature.

Despite it being nearly 27 years ago and I’ve not touched it since, I actually graduated from Leeds with a 2:1 in Geology, so I have a good working knowledge of what is happening in the Ribble Estuary!

What is going on is called accretion and is a natural process. Sand is being transported by a process called ‘alongshore transportation’ from the North and South of the estuary. Where they meet the Ribble, due to the rivers current, the sand is deposited. This is nothing to the amount of the Irish Sea bed being deposited by the tides.
The basic net result is that Southport’s ‘Golden Sands’ are further out to sea than they were a few years ago and the silt has been deposited closer inland.
This alongshore transportation has been going on for centuries, the ‘Bank’ part of Bankfield Lane in Churchtown is from the old sea wall along the edge of the Botanic Gardens. Then there’s the further walls along the edge of Marshside and where the Coast Road runs up to the Plough Roundabout.

If you’re interested. Have a look at the below link, it’s heavy reading, but you’ll see that your above argument is, at the very least, hugely flawed!

The best sand in Southport has been hidden below the Ocean Plaza development!

What is this? An actual post based on science with actual evidence? It can’t be. Where do you think you are? You must understand only hearsay can possibly be accepted as fact. Oh and blame a council.

Lack of resources are you having a laugh,Corruption is where most of seftons budget goes,The council certainly had the resources to purchase the Strand for 32 million pounds after they were told it was very bad deal and not worth half the purchase price ,They were told it was a ultra high risk and doomed to fail. The reality is that the councils treatment of southport is in short an act of deliberate vandalism, lack of resources is not the issue here ,

Apart from the number of Councillors, which in my opinion is a given, what would be cut to fund maintaining the beach in it's previous artificial state? I wait with baited breath for a flood of sensible or workable proposals.

While your at it what about the fairground site ,sold by the council to Blackpool developments who raped the site of everything then we bought it back from them at a very much larger price than we sold it for ,is that a great council or are you going to put that down to lack off funds

Yes it is - although I don't expect you or the rest of the flat earth believers on here to accept that.

So, let me see if I've got this right. You highlight the purchase of the Strand for 32 million pounds as a bad deal (incidentally, I don't disagree with you on that).
You can't however see past that and reach the conclusion - if there was no money available before this purchase then with repayments and interest on the loan it won't adversely affect resources. I really can't believe you're that dim!
Incidentally - what would be your answer to my question of why spend money maintaining an artificial beach which few people would want to come and visit?

Clearly one of Southports super short thinkers in full flow, sand winning has gone on along our coast line since the 19th century and probably before.
The aim to take the best and leave the rest, this lowered the beach allowing even more silt to be deposited.

Rainfords plant received permission in 1977 extended in 1983 and 2001 but work had of course gone on for a long time before.

    A far more pertinent link is this;
