The existing cycle lane measures on Talbot Street, Chapel Street, Tulketh Street, Hoghton Street, Wesley Street can be fully enforced from July 29th again after the previous TRRO expired in February.

Queens Road will be closed to traffic excluding cyclists, buses and emergency services.

A spokesperson for Sefton Council said: “A temporary traffic regulation order (TTRO) for Queen's Road, Southport will come into effect from July 29.

"The order will prohibit all south-westbound vehicle traffic from Park Road, as well as north-eastbound from the junction with Manchester Road.

"This temporary order does not apply to busses or pedal cycles and is done so in conjunction with a number of cycle lane installations in the town centre.

"Motorists are advised a diversion route is in place via Alexandra Road and Leyland Road."

Good news for all who cycle and particularly welcome as such great cycling weather about. ;-)

N.B. Just needs the local Police to keep an eye on the behaviour of motorists now, to ensure 100% compliance. Because last time around, a proportion were deliberately running the NO ENTRY signage, presumably hoping by doing so, to make the scheme unworkable and get it scrapped. A tactic previously/still employed (along with vandalising signage) in 20mph areas - but to zero effect!

Such cycle lanes are the result of a government decision and their use, if agreed by local councils, applies to the whole country, not just your delusional mindset.

Woohoo this is fantastic news.! Glad Sefton council saw sense…. Bring on the permanent adoption of these and even more lanes around town.! We will all benefit from these developments. Excellent news.

Well, being the site's motoring guru, you would say that! Whereas, if you rode a bike regularly on today's roads, you'd be more than aware of how badly riders are not infrequently treated, at the hands of uncaring motorists. If you want to carry on believing we're getting 1.5m clearance, every time a motorist overtakes, I'd suggest digging your old bike out and taking a spin or two around town, to see for yourself!
