Southport were pushed all the way by a very impressive Charnock Richard side but in the end came away on the right end of a 3-1 scoreline.

On a cold and misty evening Southport started well with Jack Doyle having a shot pushed on to the bar but it took until the 27th minute to open the scoring when a bit of Connor Woods trickery bamboozled the home defence and he fired home.

The home side thought they had equalised late on in the half but an Assistant Ref’s flag stopped the celebrations for a handball.

Two second half goals from Jordan Archer (subbed on at half time having been stuck on the closed M6) in the 57th and 69th minute put the game out of reach.

Charnock finished strongly and in the 71st minute they were awarded a penalty which the leading scorer and very impressive Jordan Darr confidently despatched for his 30th goal of the season.

Southport did create a number of chances late on as the game became stretched but it was Charnock who came closest and Tony McMillan had to be alert with two fine saves late on.

Southport will now play Lancaster City in the Semi Final at Leyland on Wednesday March 9th Kick Off 7.30pm. The second semi final will see Atherton Collieries play West Didsbury & Chorlton AFC on Wednesday 16th March 2022 also at Leyland.
