Damien Moore MP attended the Southport Bid conference on Friday 8 February to discuss with prominent business leaders how to attribute part of the £675 million fund he secured from the Chancellor in November to Southport.

The Chancellor has confirmed that part of the fund could be used to cut business rates by up to a third, providing small businesses in shopping destinations such as Lord Street with a life-line after the acceleration of online shopping.

    Damien Moore MP said:
“I feel it is important that we work together with local business to discuss how to make our high street flourish and restore Lord Street to what it once was. The use of the High Street Fund will encourage more investment in Southport and promote future growth.

“Whilst Sefton Council continue to deliver in Bootle and ignore the pressures faced by Southport’s small businesses, this fund will be a much-needed life-line to those who have worked incredibly hard to maintain our town as a premier tourist destination.”

For further information, please contact Damien Moore MP on 01704 500577 or damien.moore.mp@parliament.uk .

This guy really is shameless... more spin than a Dyson V10.

Firstly, the idea that he secured £675m from the Chancellor is simply laughable... it would have been all over the national papers if he had been the driver behind this and he'd be winning Parliamentarian of the Year for it! Don't hold your breath on that score.

Getting his party colleague to deliberately give him (and another in a hard-pressed seat IIRC) a glancing reference does not mean Damien did anything other than plead to be given a nod to help him out locally I'd suggest.

Also, whilst anything is great as it's desperately needed - let's be frank - £675m spread across the thousands of high streets across the country is peanuts for this problem.

Also, with regard to this particular meeting - he came in halfway through it and stood at the back the whole time with his coat & scarf on, then after the meeting was finished he shook hands with a few folks as it broke up and that was it from what I saw... now, if that's the Tory way of holding meaningful discussions on an important subject - it rather explains why Theresa May is in the mess she's in.

If I've read the report correctly his behaviour more or less mirrors Lizzie's - any observations on that - 'this woman really is shameless, more spin than a Zanusi' doesn't sound too shabby- mmm?
