Music, afternoon tea and some high-quality headgear were among the highlights of a week-long Easter festival organised by a specialist Southport day service for people with dementia.
A performance by popular resort singers Local Vocals got the celebrations under way at Brookdale Resource Centre in Ainsdale, which is run by leading Sefton adult social care provider, New Directions.
The choir’s varied repertoire of musical memories went down a treat with the Brookdale audience who were invited to sing along with all their old favourites.
This event was followed by a special Easter afternoon tea featuring a range of delicious Easter cakes and more live entertainment, this time provided by talented Southport ivory tickler, John Taylor.
The climax of the Easter events was an Easter bonnet competition with prizes on offer for the fanciest headwear based on votes cast by the people who attend the Brookdale centre.
Brookdale Service Manager, Salwa Moustafa, commented: “Our staff put a lot of time and effort into our series of Easter activities this year, and I’m delighted at how they turned out, and the many positive comments we have received.
“Along with the performances of our talented musicians, an Easter egg for every service user and the special Easter cards they made for their families, it all added up to a great way to celebrate this special time of year.”
Brookdale Resource Centre enables the carers of service users living with dementia to have an important respite break.
Clients enjoy a wide range of activities at the centre including arts and crafts, sensory stimulation and music and reminiscence therapies.
