A Southport conwoman has been sentenced for stealing £20 from an elderly man - after she claimed to be his carer.

Suzanne Luthje, 47, appeared in Liverpool Crown Court, after she took £20 from a then 84-year-old man at his address in Ainsdale.

Luthje was let into the property by the victim after she claimed to be one of his carers.
She was given a six-month jail sentence, suspended for 12 months.

The charge relates to the incident which took place on July 20 of last year, where Luthje reportedly arrived at the victim’s door at around 6.30pm.
Prosecuting in court, Mr Baxter said the defendant then “asked him for money” and how “she asked for £2 and then increased it to £20.”

The prosecutor then detailed how the victim gave Luthje the money because he “felt sorry for her”.
Luthje returned a week later requesting a further £20.
Prosecuting, Mr Baxter said: “She said ‘I’ve come to see how you are’ and said ‘because I want another £20’.”
Mr Baxter also described how Luthje stood over and leaned into the victim before he gave her more money.
The victim is said to have previously had a stroke and to be badly affected by his mobility.
The court heard how neighbours became aware that Luthje was at the property and confronted her, with police later arriving.
Prosecuting, Mr Baxter said: “The officer said the defendant said she did it and she was sorry.”
A victim statement was also referenced in court, which detailed how the victim felt insecure and was afraid of being attacked.
Defending, Mr Watson said that since the offence, Luthje “has been doing what she can”.
Watson outlined how the 47-year-old has been active in attending different courses, volunteering and is trying to budget her lifestyle.
Mr Watson said: “She’s trying to get her life in order.

Yeah right! Surprising how many people are 'putting their lives right' when they appear in court. What courses did she attend to learn how to con the most vulnerable in society?
