Southport's been named among the best places to live in the UK.

Judges for the Sunday Times selected favoured towns and villages based on a range of lifestyle criteria including schools, culture, health of the high street, green spaces and transport.

They travelled thousands of miles around the UK, visiting locations and assessing various aspects of life to pick the best of the bunch, looking for attractive, well designed homes, and locations bursting with community spirit.

It says that Southport - a hugely popular tourist destination since the Victorian era - was recognised by judges for its 'excellent secondary schools and a fresh focus on outdoor life and nature.'
