Detectives in Sefton are welcoming the sentencing of two men to a total of seven and a half years in prison for a series of burglaries at Sefton and Liverpool businesses earlier this year.

At Liverpool Crown Court on Friday (11 October), 40-year-old Darren Tynan of no fixed abode was sentenced to four years and six months in prison after being charged with a total of 12 offences, including the below:

Burglary at Bootle YMCA in Park Street in May

Burglary in 51 Mill Lane Bar, West Derby in May

Burglary in Sienna Hair and Beauty, Almonds Green, West Derby in May

An attempted burglary at Tiger Bar in Leicester Street, Southport in June

Burglary of businesses in Elbow Lane, Formby in June

26-year-old Dean Kane of Westminster Road, Kirkdale was sentenced to three years in prison after being charged with a total of seven offences, including the offences at Bootle YMCA, and Tiger Bar in Southport.

During the offences, items including alcohol and cash were stolen.

Speaking after their sentences, Detective Constable Dave Rutherford said: "Tynan and Kane targeted businesses across Sefton and Liverpool over the summer, and it is pleasing to see them face justice. Tynan and Kane are two examples of brazen and thoughtless criminals who operate oblivious to the damage they cause.

"We understand the lasting impact that burglary or attempted burglary has on hardworking members of the community, and we'll continue to work closely with businesses across the force to ensure that we remove those people who cause such harm.

"If you have any information about suspected burglary at businesses or homes, or of stolen goods being sold in your community, let us know and we will continue to take positive action."
