From the Southport and Ormskirk hospital PR Office:
Simon Williams, Facilities Manager explains: “We are grateful to the patient and her partner for flagging this issue, and apologise for the unacceptable condition of the fruit.
"We source our fruit from a reputable provider and it is stored in line with official guidance, so these kinds of incidents are extremely rare.
“However we take this very seriously, and will investigate further to ensure any lessons learnt are implemented.”

The food and staff that serve it in southport hospital are first class, everything is fresh, well prepared, hot and tasty.
The wards are well run from staff that clean to a high standard to medical staff, everyone is well trained and well placed and a credit to the trust .
All the fruit I saw there was as fresh as a daisy .
