The Weld Blundell Pub on the Formby bypass closes its doors for the final time yesterday, Sunday 13th May.

The pub, has been there for over 70 years on Scaffold Lane, Ince Blundell and has seen many extensions over the years.

A statement from the pub said: "It’s with a heavy heart we write this final update...
As many of you will be aware the business has been up for sale for some time, the difficult decision has been made to close the business as of the 13th OF MAY 2018."

"We would like to extend our greatest thanks to all our lovely customers who have stuck with us throughout our journey here at the Weld Blundell Arms ❤️."

A planning application was submitted to Sefton Council for the demolition of the Weld Blundell Pub on the Formby Bypass and to erect a 10-pump petrol filling station with ancillary retail and drive thru cafe/restaurant along with a new bowling green clubhouse and improvements to the existing bowling green. According to the EG Group, 45 jobs will be created through the development.

As far as we are aware, the bowling green cannot be removed as it was originally gifted by the land owner so it will remain and will be improved.

The agent name for the planning application is PWA Planning. There are some concerns by local residents that this is already a busy junction and notorious accident spot, as well as a large amount of congestion at peak times throughout the day. There are also already three garages within 5 minutes of this particular spot.

However, others look forward to the convenience of shopping and filling up in one place. Local resident Paul Hannaman said: “That’s the best news we have had in a long time, the Weld Blundell is a waste of space, it's old and this would be great for the Ince Blundell community finally having a shop on our doorstep. I only hope it comes to fruition.”

Details of the planning application can be found by clicking here

Well I am sure that breweries and pub chains are now more interested in selling LAND than BEER. At my local there has just been a rise of 11p a pint across the beer range so as far as I am concerned they don't really care about the regular "drinker" they'd rather have kids running around while their parents are EATING not drinking.

Have the ingredients breweries use, to make their product, gone up so much that they NEED to put 11p on every one of the millions of pints they produce.
It seems odd that a pub tucked away from the Town Centre needs to sell TWO pints for over £7 when you can get the same two pints for less than £6 on LORD ST.

And before someone brings up the "Tinned" Ale from Supermarkets being cheaper I'd rather pack in altogether than drink that.

I take it, Mr Hannaman, that the new development, will not actually be 'ON YOUR DOORSTEP'.
You maybe reserve the right for that pleasure to be credited to someone else.
