The West Lancashire Light Railway Trust is pleased to confirm that we have agreed to purchase our existing site from our landlords, Henry Alty (Investments) LLP, securing this voluntary community asset, in the heart of Hesketh Bank, for future generations.
The Railway Trust has secured £260,000 to purchase this land, from generous donations and loans from Trust Members and Friends. For a small voluntary organisation, this is a significant sum, that required carefully considered by the Railway Trust Membership, who gave overwhelming approval to proceed, at an Extraordinary General meeting in January 2019.
To assist with the loan repayments, the Trust is pleased to announce our “WLLR Members and Friends Development Fund”. We are asking our Members and Friends to either donate to our appeal fund or sign-up to contribute £10.00 per month for 5 years. We require 160 monthly £10 subscriptions or the equivalent sum, to meet our target. The railway Trustees believe this is achievable and kindly ask for your support?
With Gift Aid, your donation will produce a whopping 25% uplift to your donation. If you are a UK tax payer, please consider and tick the gift aid box.
Unfortunately, the consequence of us not achieving our targets, could result in the Trustees having to consider whether the railway can be viable in the future. There are no guarantees that we can retain use of our existing land, should we not own the land.
We believe the railway is worth saving as a voluntary community organisation, preserving and demonstrating Heritage Narrow Gauge Industrial railway equipment, as used in long lost industries such as Brickmaking, once a major industry here in Hesketh Bank.
Our Appeal leaflet is available attached to this post, or via our website; www.westlancsrailway.org or by calling into the railway on a Thursday or Sunday Afternoon. Please pop in for a chat to hear our future plans?
Well worth a visit. The volunteers are very friendly and informative and the site with its Railway history is very interesting, even if you are not a Railway enthusiast.
