Southport head to York on Saturday afternoon hoping to make it back to back victories.

The Port put in a dominant first-half performance midweek against Altrincham to come away with a 2-1 win.

As his side head to Bootham Crescent this weekend, Liam Watson will be hoping for another good display from the Port.

York have been one of the stand-out teams so far this campaign, winning six of their nine games, and are yet to suffer a defeat.

Defensively, they are currently the best in the division, conceding only five times in the opening month. They can also cause teams problems in attack as well, with eight different scorers for Steve Watson’s side.

The two players leading the way for the Minstermen in the scoring charts are Jordan Burrow and Alex Kempster, who have scored four goals each this season. Their biggest win so far this campaign was away to Spennymoor Town, as they returned to Yorkshire 4-1 winners.

Their most recent result wasn’t so glamorous and York will be looking to improve on their midweek 0-0 draw against Guiseley.

Whilst this shows they can be contained; Liam Watson’s side will still have to be at their best to come away with anything from what is scheduled to be the final visit to Bootham Crescent.

On both occasions when the two sides met last season, it was York who came away victorious, winning 1-0 at the Pure Stadium and 2-1 in the reverse fixture.

Southport will need a better display on Saturday in order to push on this season and to build on the Altrincham victory.
