My brother was certainly the sportsman of the family, playing cricket, rugby and football.
What a thread you started Kate, you've certainly rekindled a lot of childhood memories and reminded me of people I used to know all those years ago and have not thought of in a long time.
It really is horrifying though to think these memories are of events of almost fifty years ago, even longer in the case of your great grandfather and I have to say have made me feel rather old.
Still you're only as old as you feel and I'm a great believer in the old adage that growing old is certainly better than the alternative.
Do you think that's really wise?

Glad i started a few memories!!! Apologies tho for making u feel 'old'!! lol
Its good to hear of memories of my Family, particularly my Great Grandfather... as u say it is such a long time ago, but its good how 1 memory triggers others memories!!!
I never knew the business that my Grandfather had, hence why i started this thread... thanks to all for the memories

Does anyone know anything, or remember anything, about Green's Taxi business run from York Terrace on Manchester Road in possibly the late '40's to mid '50's. Belonged to my grandfather and I know virtually nothing about it. My grandmother also ran a boarding house from the same premises mainly for theatrical performers at the various theatres then in Southport.

Yes my brother is third from right back row, My Uncle Ed is in the centre of the pic. Three others I recognise are John Catlow, Roy Aldred and Martin Blundell.

I do indeed remember Joe Boyer, he had a fish and chip shop on Cemetery Rd and for a long while ran the Boy's Brigade handbell team at St Philips.
