churchill avenue newsagent called dykings from 70s

i remember at christmas time how every year they used to do christmas window display, i remember staring at it for ages thinking how lovely it was, they would put black insulating tape on the windows to make it look like georgian windows, they would use pink strip lighting to soften the lighting and use large branches painted white to look like a christmas tree and hang chocolate decorations from the branches and cheap plastic toys that they used to sell, then they would place boxes of chocs under the tree, does any one ever remember this.

I am sorry to let you know, but Tom Dykins has also died, during the last 18 months or so . Doris and Tom were really lovely people who played a great part in my teenage years. If you remember they had two lovely daughters Libby(Elizabeth) and Janet. When I was at the High School I went around with Libby quite a great deal. We went to the dances at the Palace Hotel on a Saturday evening meeting up with other pals from school, yes that includes dear Myrtle (poster on here). The Pool was another favourite meeting place, we also knew guys that played football at Hesketh Casuals, inc Peter Rimmer, Ian Whiteside, John Kitchen etc. I went with Libby and her parents to a wonderful Freemasons Ball in Liverpool, we felt almost like "debutantes" there I can tell you.Her sister now lives in Australia and I have not seen her for years, I remember Libby and I taking Janet to see th Beatles at the Empire in Liverpool. I still have contact with Libby and as I am sure any High School contemporary of mine also does, every five years or so, when she arranges our School Reunion . The newsagents was indeed very well run under the Dykins, a tribute to Libbys' parents indeed
