After not stepping inside the Bold (Botanic Road, Churchtown) for some time, I have recently been to a funeral 'wake' and for several evening meals. Although it has been considered a local drinker's pub, I can honestly recommend the food here which has been very good each visit. This appears to have been brought about by the arrival of a new manager, some new staff members and an improved menu. All it needs now is a locally-influenced specials board and a sympathetic makeover - perhaps with some booths in the smaller rooms for added coziness. If and when decorated do please preserve the coats of arms on the fireplaces and the informative framed histories etc. On our last visit we sat outside in the evening sunshine. Great location to watch the world go by with a cold beer!

I came here today for a family lunch to celebrate my daughter's 18th Birthday. The food was very tasty. We had gammon, beef & ale pie, chicken & bacon burger, cheese & bacon burger, and a breakfast. Every meal was delicious. My daughter couldn't eat all of hers & was given a tub to bring the rest home. The menu was very varied and reasonably priced.
The atmosphere was very pleasant and relaxed, no loud music.
The only negative was that the car park was full because there was a wedding at the church opposite and people watching the wedding had parked in the pub car park. I don't know how this could be monitored.
I will definitely be returning and would recommend it.

The food and drink at the Bold Arms has always been excellent - I've eaten here regularly for a number of years as well as enjoying a pint or two of Guinness. The main chef is noted for his ability to cook a steak to perfection.
