RIMMER BOWS OUT WITH FINAL SEA COP WICKET AGAINST HUYTON
Fleetwood Hesketh moved fifteen points clear of Hightown, after a commanding 93 run victory over Huyton, demoted the Liverpool based club into the First Division for next season.
Neil Rimmer opted to bat first, with all but one of his batsmen getting some good practice out in the middle, Rimmer led the way with 42, whilst Paul Regan (39), Tommy Wareing (34), Derek Sykes (32), Nikita Miller (31), Mohammad Azam (23) and an undefeated 17 from Danny Card allowed their skipper to call a halt on the innings at 237-7 off 55 overs.
The only blip on the Kwik Cars sponsored home sides card, was Steve Rimmer (1) who was almost certainly playing his last ever competitive innings for the club at Sea Cop, before he ups sticks and joins the jet setting shandy drinkers down south.
Huyton were all but relegated before the start of the match and their skipper Mark Wilkie made use of the fact, by changing his batting order around to give everyone a chance with the willow.
Fleetwood’s fielders then seemed determined to help one or two of the visitor’s batsmen by spilling one or two straight forward chances, before Mark Prince and Azam both struck twice to leave Huyton in tatters on 35-4, Azams first was down to a lightning quick diving catch from a full length Miller at point.
Wilkie didn’t hang around too long as he became Millers first victim of the day and he soon grabbed his second courtesy of a Steve Rimmer catch, Paul Mullen soon got into the swing of things with the wicket of Hutton, leaving Huyton in disarray on 72-7.
Brief cameo innings from both Luke Connolly and keeper Morrison kept Fleetwood busy in the filed, until Steve Rimmer removed Morrison with the score on 128, ten runs later Miller ha Connolly stumped and the game was all but over.
How fitting it was then, that Steve Rimmer ended his Sea Cop career with the final wicket of the match, that of veteran David Platt to wrap up a full quota of 25 very welcome points.
Rimmer rightly led his team mates off the pitch, to a thunderous round of applause from everybody at the ground, who had witnessed the one time scorer, captain, paceman, spinner, groundsman, committee member, general dogs body and all round good guy, leave the place he has called home for perhaps the very last time (Don’t change your mind Steve, I’m not writing another piece on you).
This Saturday they make the long arduous trek to North Wales to take on a very strong Colwyn Bay side at Penrhyn Ave (noon start).
Team for Saturday’s trip is (meet at 8.30am)……Neil Rimmer, Mike Bimpson, Paul Regan, Jon Bowden, Steve Rimmer, Nikita Miller, Mohammad Azam, Danny Card, Paul Mullen, Derek Sykes & Mark Prince.
Danny Murphy’s second team had a much needed win at Huyton last Saturday, the home side were bowled out for 120 with Jamie Speirs taking 5-56 and Andy Watts 3-26, in reply Fleetwood eased home for the loss of four wickets, with Phil Jones top scoring with 36 and Neil Pike hitting an unbeaten 34.
They visited Northern on Sunday to play an outstanding fixture from earlier in the season, bus their hopes of another win were ruined by the rain, with Fleetwood in a strong position on 169-5, with the returning Gary Wells hitting 64 and Danny Card 38, both teams had to eventually settle for five points each.
The second team’s survival in the reserve Premier Division is still far from safe and a home fixture against Colwyn Bay will be far from easy this coming Saturday (12.45pm).

FLEETWOOD AIM TO STOP NORTHERN LIGHTS FROM SHINING ANY BRIGHTER.........................!!!!!!
Fleetwood Hesketh go into their final match of the season at third placed Northern tomorrow, knowing that the result could play a huge part in the final destination of the Liverpool & District Cricket Competition Premier Division title.
Northern are in the mix for the title with firm favourites Bootle who visit St Helens Recs and New Brighton who host Colwyn Bay.
Northern’s success this season has been based around two outstanding players in Carl Hey and Steve Mullaney (1243), who have both raced past a thousand league runs for the season, with Hey (1423) smashing the league record for most runs in a season, which had stood since 1955.
Kwik Cars sponsored Fleetwood Hesketh hope the pair have a rare off day tomorrow, when the sides take each other on at Moor Park, Crosby (noon start), Hey will be looking to cross the 1500 run mark, with Fleetwood hoping to spoil the party.
Last Saturday’s trip to Colwyn Bay proved fruitless, after going down by 4 wickets in a very low scoring contest.
Fleetwood were eventually dismissed for 116 off 30.1 overs, with just four players making double figures, Paul Regan (34), Danny Card (14), Neil Rimmer (13) and Steve Rimmer (11).
Debutant Phil Jones, who has impressed in the second team all season, found life very tough at the top as he was trapped in front for a first ball duck, to one of five lbw decisions given in the first innings.
Debasis Mohanty, took his season’s wicket tally to 81, with figures of 4-29.
In reply, the hosts also found batting hard and slipped to 89-6, however an unbeaten 20 from Charlie Clubb and 16 not out from Mohanty saw then home in 22.3 overs.
The pick of Fleetwood’s bowlers was Paul Mullen, who eased himself back into the groove with 3-24.
Danny Murphy’s second team guaranteed their place in the top flight for one more season after a 5 wicket win over Colwyn Bay.
The visitor’s declared on 180-5 from 53 overs and in reply, Fleetwood reached 181-5 with party boy Tommy Wareing hitting 55 and Andrew Watts 46 to secure a very much needed 22 points.
Finally, last Sundays Cancer Charity Twenty/20 Match at Sea Cop raised a superb £600 for a very worthwhile cause.
Kwik Cars select side hit 160-7 off their 20 overs, with Aussie Pat Jackson top scoring with 65 and Waqar Khan hitting 39, while Fleetwood’s keeper/spinner Mike Bimpson helped himself to 4-28.
Fleetwood Hesketh started brightly with Jon Bowden (42) and Mal Swift (16) smashing 60 for the first wicket off 6 overs, however the loss of wickets at regular intervals saw them slip to 116 all out.
The club would like to thank everyone who attended the event and all those who donated items for the raffle, with a special thank you to Roger, Chris, Guy and Andy for doing the BBQ.
£85 of the money raised came when Kwik Cars Roger Halliwell, faced an over from Jamaican spinner Nikita Miller which he somehow kept out, only to be bowled an over later by a bouncing bomb (five times) from one of his employees Chris Ironside.

STEVE RIMMER BOWS OUT IN NORTHERN STYLE
Fleetwood Hesketh finished off their 2007 ECB Liverpool & District Cricket Competition Premier Division campaign, with a convincing 65 run victory over one time title contenders Northern.
Neil Rimmer won the toss and immediately sprang a surprise in the line up, by announcing that his brother Steve would open the innings, in what was to be his last ever match for the Marshside club.
If ever their was a fitting way to leave a club, Steve certainly made it happen last Saturday, as he kept himself in the spotlight until the very last ball of an enthralling game.
He started by helping his younger brother Neil (84) put on 138 for the first wicket, then followed it by hitting his first ever Premier Division half century (57), before falling to the talented vocalist Carl Hey, whose lbw appeal could be heard on the Welsh mountains.
Mohammad Azam and Nikita Miller fell cheaply, paving the way for Tommy Wareing and Derek Sykes (25) to add a stylish 71 for the 5th wicket, Wareing reached his second century of the season, before Paul Regan fell for 10.
Jon Bowden then strolled to the crease and blasted a quickfire unbeaten 22, that included two sixes, one of which caused an avalanche of tiles to come hurtling down off the old pavilion.
Bowden’s knock enabled the declaration come on 294-6, with Australian bound Tommy Wareing unbeaten on 68.
Northern’s top order have been on fire this season, with Carl Hey smashing a 55 year old batting league record for the most runs scored and Lancashire’s Steve Mullaney not far behind him on the 1200 mark.
So Fleetwood knew that dismissing these two was paramount to them winning the contest, as was stemming the flow of runs from the likes of Woods and Haasbroek.
The home seemed to be cruising along on 81-0, when Paul Mullen forced an error from Hey and you’ve guessed it, Steve Rimmer took the catch at square leg to remove Northern’s run machine.
Moments later and with no runs added, Nikita Miller removed opener Cole to leave the home side on 81-2, Mullen then returned the favour to Rimmer as the home side lost Nick Woods with 118 on the board.
Steve Mullaney then took centre stage for a while by hammering 65, but his lights were then turned off by that boy Rimmer, who soon followed it up with his third wicket to reduce Northern to 180-5.
The rest of the lower order failed to offer much support to Garcia (32no) who saw Rimmer complete five wickets in a match for the first time this season, as the home team eventually slipped to 217 all out.
Nikita Miller signed of with 3-68 to take his wicket haul to 50 for the season and Paul Mullen who seemed to be getting back to his best finished with 2-34.
But it was Steve Rimmer who took the overall honours with 5-67 to add to his 57 runs, in what should always be remembered as Steve’s final fling for a club he has served so well.
Danny Murphy’s second team ended with a five wicket defeat at home to Northern, batting first Fleetwood hit 230 in just 42 overs, with Andrew Watts hitting a superb 89, with the injury prone Alan Green unbeaten on 36, the visitors then coasted to 232-5 off 37.5 overs.
The club would like to wish Jamaican all rounder Nikita Miller all the best for the coming Caribbean season and hope the laid back character returns to Marshside next April.
Two players also on their travels are Tommy Wareing and Mark Prince, who are both jetting off to Australia to enhance their cricketing and drinking skills, all I can say is good luck Melbourne.
Last but not least a big thank you goes to Kwik Cars for their continued sponsorship at all levels of the club and to everyone else who has contributed in one form or another, both on and off the field of play.
Steve Rimmer bows out at Northern
