Southport Trinity's first season in the ECB Liverpool and District Competition finished on a high note on Saturday when an emphatic victory over Orrell ensured that they climbed off the foot of the table to finish the campaign in twelfth position above Orrell and Formby.

The visitors won the toss and batted but failed to ever gain any sort of momentum after 3 early wickets rocked the top order,only Phil Unsworth (38) got to grips with the Trinity attack as Kevin Murray claimed 6 wickets to rip the heart out of the Orrell line up.

Neil Middlehurst provided some stubborn resistance late on with 22 as the last wicket pair frustrated Trinity up to the tea interval,but the returning Anthony Hall claimed the vital last wicket in the 66th over to leave Orrell all out for 150.

In reply Trinity made a solid start as Tony Campbell and Mark Foster added 51 for the first wicket with few problems before both fell in quick succession,which allowed Shahid Mansoor to once again take centre stage with a commanding 63 to take the Rookery men to the brink of victory.

He was replaced by Wim Van der Walt who then proceeded to smash Unsworth for two fours and a huge six over midwicket to win the game for Trinity with 7 wickets in hand, giving Mike Wareing's team their fourth victory in the last seven games.
