Cammys First Team Reports
HIGHTOWN 191 for 5 dec ( 55 overs)
TRINITY 151 all out
Southport Trinity opened up their first ever Liverpool and District Cricket Competition campaign with a disappointing 40 run defeat at the hands of Hightown at Sandy Lane on Saturday.
In conditions where the batsmen were always going to have to work hard for their runs, new skipper Dwight Mais had little hesitation in sticking the home side in,the opening pair made a solid enough start, adding 44 for the first wicket before Vosloo edged Anthony Hall behind to give Trinity the breakthrough they needed.
Trinity stuck at it and grabbed another couple of wickets before the patient Edwards (85) and Sutcliffe (45) swung things back in the home side's favour, adding 77 for the fourth wicket.
Tony Campbell then picked up 2 wickets before the declaration came after 55 overs with the score 191 for 5.
In reply,Trinity made a disastrous start, slumping to 37-4 before Kevin Murray took control with some assured strokeplay,Mais joined him at the crease and the pair took the attack to Hightown to put the league new boys in with a chance of victory.
They had taken the score to 119 before a calamitous mix up saw Murray unfortunately run out for an impressive 41,Mais followed soon after, bowled by a slow full toss for 36 and with that Trinity's chances of victory disappeared.
Salt and Bennet hung around for a while before the latter was last man out, bowled by Symondson with just 3 overs remaining, Trinity all out for 151.
This weekend sees Trinity in both league and cup action. On Saturday, S and B make the short trip to the Rookery whilst on Sunday they entertain Wallasey in the Littlewoods Gaming Knockout Trophy.

Even from the other side of the world, News travels very quickly. I have seen the report on ESPN ( American Dog ***** sports Channel ) and am very impressed by our excellent victory over them To$$ers at S & B!!! I went on the internet the other day and read all the National paper clippings about our new sponsership. What's all that about??
Anyway boys, keep up the good work, and make sure you DO THEM again next week.
Life is grand in the Caribbean. I'll be in Europe, sailing out of Dover from the 6th May.

TRINITY 166 all out (57.3 overs)
S & B 109 all out.
Trinity won by 57 runs.
Southport Trinity gained their first ever victory in the Liverpool and District Cricket Competition on Saturday with a thrilling 57 run success over S and B at the Rookery.
Batting first,Trinity made a solid if unspectacular start,Campbell and Bolton adding 40 for the first wicket before a smart stumping from Baker accounted for the latter,Campbell followed for a patient 31 before Kevin Murray impressed once more before trying one shot too many, bowled by Firth for a fine 47.
The innings then lost its momentum at this point as wickets began to fall at regular intervals and from looking like they may post a score of around 200,Trinity had to settle for 166 all out.
Chris Firth was the pick of the bowlers with 4 for 34.
In reply, the visitors made a positive start, cruising to 46 before Aston found Mais in the gully off Murray, that sparked an almighty collapse as S and B found themselves 53 for 5,Murray producing a beauty to bowl Mark Baker for 32.
It soon became 65 for 8 and Trinity looked certain favourites but a determined rearguard action from the impressive Josh Hine (19) and Dave Britton (23) looked like it may save the day as the pair put up stubborn resistance for 16 overs.
Just 3 overs were left to survive when a rush of blood from Hine saw him spoon a catch to midwicket to give Murray his sixth victim and take the home side to the brink of victory,Anthony Hall came in to bowl the penultimate over and with his second ball, trapped Britton in front to give Trinity the win they had been waiting for amidst scenes of jubilation from the big home crowd.
Kevin Murray clinched the man of the match award with his 6 for 16 from 14 overs adding to his 47 with the willow.
SUNDAY
WALLASEY 155 all out (40.1 overs)
TRINITY 144 all out (42.3 overs)
Meanwhile on Sunday,Trinity will feel they should have progressed to the next round of the Littlewoods Gaming Knockout Trophy after managing to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, going down by 11 runs to Wallasey at the Rookery.
Wallasey batted first and looked comfortable at 131 for 4 before skipper Dwight Mais destroyed the remainder of the batting line up with 6 for 22 as the visitors slumped to 155 all out.
In reply,Trinity appeared to be in control whilst Kevin Murray was at the crease, but his demise for 47 sparked an all too familiar collapse as the Rookery men fell agonisingly short, all out for 144.
