Portland FC
Well they did it!..
The Portland reached their first ever semi-final with a 2-1 victory over First Division opponents Running Horses.
Team=4-4-2..HANSON-POWSEY-ASHBY-GREEN-TROTTER..
P.RIMMER-A.RIMMER-Daz TAYLOR-Dave TAYLOR..BONDand Craig TAYLOR.Subs YEWDALL-LANGFORD
Two goals from top scorer Craig Taylor in the second half was just enough to put the lads in the hat for semi-final draw.
The first half had players struggling to find a foothold in the game, and goalmouth action was at a premium, with both sets of players just happy to find their touch again after the two week lay-off due to the snow.
Since the arrival of Eion Bond from Locomotive F.C the Portland attack has benefited from his pace and eye for a goal and it was Bondy's shot on goal that led to the first goal when his effort came back off the keeper and fell at the feet of Craig Taylor who cooly sloted into an empty net.
Craig Green's mistake (his first of the season) let in Runny's for a soft goal and level the score at 1-1,but the lad's showed spirit
and steped up a gear and gained the advantage when the youngster cut into the box and calmly rounded the Runny's keeper and notched to give his side a 2-1 victory that in all honesty was never in doubt.
With the help of his dad Dave and uncle Daz screaming at him every week, young "Pip" Taylor might just be the gem that can put the Portland into the Final.

TOP DISPLAY AT SANDBROOK ROAD.

CRAIG TAYLOR,BOND...SUBS-SWIFT,JOHNSTONE
GOALS---BOND(5)LANGFORD(2)RIMMER-C.TAYLOR-SWIFT.
Another superb display of attacking football from Miggy's men but
one or two worries in the Defence with some slack marking against
a team that were out of the game at half time with the Portland in total control at 6-1
Bondy was on fire with his 5 goal tally, and it was good to see Mike
Langford get a full 90 minuates and help himself to a couple of goals on the way. Daz Taylor had a fine game in the centre of the park,Craig Green had his usual steady performance, but defensively one or two lads looked like they were still at Mr Powsey's birthday bash from last night! and had J.J screaming at them from the touchline...."Paulo" Rimmer scored with a neat near post header, and Craig Taylor and substitute Tom Swift helped themselves to a goal each.........all in all a good performance, but lad's........sort out that defence!!!!

Inter-martin 2 Portland 3 at Edge Hill.
TEAM-4-4-2
YEWDALL-TROTTER-GREEN-ASHBY-POWSEY.
P.RIMMER-A.RIMMER-Daz TAYLOR-LANGFORD.
Craig TAYLOR-Aaron TAYLOR.Subs SWIFT-J.J'STONE
ThePortland took to the field with no recognised keeper and last weeks 5 goal hero Eion Bond unavailable, but still managed to over come their opponents in a5 goal thriller at rain swept Ormskirk.
Total domination counted for nothing at half time when Miggys men found themselves 2-0 down at the break ,after controling most of the play Inter's two goals came in the last ten minuates
of the half ,one from a spill by stand in keeper Yewdall and the second was a tap in on the line after a frantic scramble.
But the second half showed what the Portland are all about with
three goals in a ten minuate period from the Taylor trio Daz,
Aaron, and Craig that earned the team a victory in a game they
dominated for long spells

PORTLAND 3 SOUTHBANK 1 Sunday Div 2 at Portland ST.
Team 4-4-2, FARRINGTON,POWSEY,ASHBY,YEWDALL,GREEN.
TROTTER,P.RIMMER,A.RIMMER,LANGFORD.
SWIFT,BOND, Subs..Dave TAYLOR,JOHNSTONE.
Portland kept their winning form in tact ahead of next weeks cup
Semi-Final,but failed to dominate play in a game that produced a
fine performance from a Southbank side who played well, but lacked
finishing power in front of goal.
The home side started the better and could have been three goals
to the good after only 15 mins, but some erratic finishing let them
down before LANGFORD opened the scoreing with a well taken half volley. Southbank hit back and were first to most 50/50's
and controlled the rest of the half but failed to cause the Portland defence any problems. To their credit it was the visitors who started the better in the second period with some
neat passing football but the game turned for the home side when BOND out-paced his marker and was savagely felled in the
box and earned his team a penalty that was converted by
substitute Dave TAYLOR.
Portland struck again 5mins later when BOND crossed from the
left and found SWIFT at the far post, who swooped in and finished with a fine shot that virtualy killed the game off.
Southbank had worked hard and got themselves a well deserved
consolation goal when stand in keeper FARRINGTON failed to deal with a shot that caught him of his line . Portland had struggled to find any rytham in the game but still managed to
record a 3-1 victory that sets them up for next weeks Semi-Final encounter with Lexton Rovers.M.O.T.M.Tom Swift.

With five games remaining the race for the 2nd Division Title is starting to hot up with a host of clubs including the Portland still in with a shout at catching league leaders Cream
TUESDAY 11TH APRIL .
TEAM-4-4-2.HARRISON,GREEN,ASHBY,YEWDALL,FARRINGTON.
P.RIMMER,Daz TAYLOR,KELLY,Dave TAYLOR.
SWIFT,BOND.Subs-A.RIMMER,LANGFORD,AaronTAYLOR
The trouble with night games is you never know who's available
for selection and
in the district league this can be a big factor in outcome of a clubs season all going pear shaped. The Portland now find themselves 8 points behind Cream F.C with five games to play, and one of those games is against the leaders. Tuesday nights game saw the return of HARRISON in goal who
will be a bonus in the run in and KELLY marked his return to action with a fine headed goal in the second half.
First half goals from SWIFT(2)BOND,and full back GREEN had put
Portland into a 4-1 lead, and the team made plenty more chances in the second period before youngster Aaron TAYLOR'S
shot and KELLY'S header gave them a convincing 6-1 victory.
If the team can take 3 more points on thursday against basement side Wyke Cop Reserves we could be in for a nailbiting
finish.

Woefull performance at Bedford Park.
TEAM-FARRINGTON,Dave TAYLOR,POWSEY,GREEN,TROTTER,
Aaron TAYLOR,INSTONE,A.RIMMER,P.RIMMER.
BOND,SWIFT.
Any chance Portland had of making a late run for promotion to the
first division took a nose dive in what must rank as the clubs poorest performance of the season.
W.C.A.Res. who sit firmly at the bottom of the league were simply
the better side on the night after this woefull performance from the cup semi-finalists. In a game littered with miss passes and a
lack luste attitude there only real effort on goal was the Penalty
awarded to them when striker BOND was fouled in the box which gave Dave TAYLOR the chance to convert his spot kick to put the home side 1-0 up.
The visitors hit back within minutes with a complete mix up in the defence and this set the pattern for the rest of the game
with Portland unable to put two passes together all night!!
Perhaps the players had Sundays semi-final in mind, lets hope so
because a repeat of this performance will only result in a win for
their opponents LEXTON ROVERS.
One unfortunate incident in the game resulted in a W.C.ALBION
player being taken to hospital with a serious leg injury, the club
wishes him a speedy recovery.

PORTLAND F.C. have reached their first ever cup final after a hard fought victory against LEXTON ROVERS at Bedford Park.
On a rock hard surface both teams struggled to keep the ball under control in an evenly contested first half,PORTLAND striker BOND should have done better with a shot that he fired over the
bar from six yards out,and full-back POWSEY's long range effort went close in a half of very few chances. Keeper HARRISON pulled
off a fine save to deny the visitors in what was their only real effort of the half.
PORTLAND began the second half with a stiff breeze behind them
and sent plenty of early long balls into the opponents area and were causing problems for LEXTON'S defenders, wide midfielder SWIFT was having a good game on the right and when the ball
fouhd him unmarked in the box he cooly sloted home his shot
into the bottom corner of the net to give his side a well earned
1-0 lead. LEXTON had a good shout for a penalty turned down
when the ball hit a PORTLAND defender, but the home side were
just starting to edge the game when BOND killed of any hopes
for ROVERS with a fine solo effort after beating three players
and finishing "Rooney esq" to fire the club into their first final.
TEAM-HARRISON,POWSEY,GREEN,ASHBY,TROTTER.
SWIFT,A.RIMMER,Daz TAYLOR,P.RIMMER.
BOND,Craig TAYLOR.Subs INSTONE,FARRINGTON,
LANGFORD.

Cream 3 Portland 3
A late equalizer for CREAM denied PORTLAND all three points, after
goals from TAYLOR,GREEN and an own goal had looked like earning
them a victory at Devonshire Road. CREAM, who missed a first half penalty before taking the lead with a mix up in the visitors area were lucky to still have their Goalkeeper on the park when he
some how escaped a caution when Craig TAYLOR was flattened
outside the area with the goal at his mercy with the
keeper already on a yellow card from an earlier encounter, his luck
was in,and no action was taken by the Referee who it must be said had a poor game allround.
PORTLAND levelled when CREAMS centre-half noded the ball over
his own keeper for a fortunate o.g and then deservedly took the lead with a well drilled free-kick from full-back GREEN.
HALF-TIME 2-1...........The home side then equalized when defender YEWDALL gave his keeper no chance with a back header that gifted a CREAM player a simple goal
Craig TAYLOR then gave the visitors the lead with a cool finish,
only to see CREAM salvage a point with the equalizer in the final
minutes of the game
On a sad note.......after the final whistle, and with a "bit of banter" still going on amongst players and officials some of the
home sides players wanted to turn the event into a boxing match and scenes that took place outside the changing rooms
were a disgrace, credit must go to CREAM player MARK GALLEY
for helping to defuse the situation, pity his manager and some of
his team mates didn't adopt the same attitude.
