Trinity Going Up...........!!!
TRINITY 102 all out
RAINHILL 103 for 9
Rainhill won by 1 wicket.
Despite suffering a nail biting one wicket defeat at Rainhill on Saturday,Southport Trinity gained enough bonus points to ensure their promotion to the First Division of the Liverpool Competition where they will join local rivals S and B and Ainsdale next season.
On a tension filled day at Victoria Terrace,Trinity batted first and made rather a mess of things as the innings failed to ever gain any momentum in difficult damp conditions.
After making steady progress to 52 for 2,only Mark Foster (28) and Russ Gregory (24) emerged with any credit as the innings crawled along to a hugely disappointing 102 all out,Ian Jennions taking 6 for 37.
Rainhill set about the small target with a somewhat cautious approach but despite an early wicket from Dwight Mais, appeared to be cruising at 59 for 1,however 5 wickets from Tony Campbell and a brilliant late 3 wicket burst from Jimmy Haynes made for an incredible finish as the home side crumbled to 101 for 9.
The last wicket would have nailed Trinity's promotion spot but it was not to be as the last pair managed to scramble the winning runs to leave Colin Maxwell's men wondering how results had gone elsewhere.
A tense half hour followed until news filtered through that Alder had lost, meaning that Trinity had finished the season behind champions Prestatyn, securing the second promotion place.
Dwight Mais finished the season as the league's leading wicket taker with 79 victims and there is little doubt that Trinity's success owes much to the big Jamaican who has consistently bowled his heart out for Colin Maxwell's side this season.
But it has been a fine team effort throughout and after winning more games than anyone else in the league,no one could begrudge the Rookery men their moment of glory.

all the greater an achievement as they managed it without injured wicket keeping legend Paul Murphy

Betting
Who did you get these odds from?
I will have a bet that trinity won't get 100 in either of the games.
