    it looks a good buy too me..

    wait till john gets a look..

    but i would buy it at £150 if the condition is good i.e no worm...watch out for the woodworm on oak expecially.

    i like it but thats just me..

    Leave it alone. Lucky to get £125 retail

    The top does not belong to the base.

    You want to see high style (foot) which this coffer has.

    The item should have a pair of strap hinges which this does not have and there is no place where the screw holes would be.

    The space in side is where candles are kept. Hence the name candle box.

    First seen in the 17th century your coffer is 18th century

    If a drawer below then called a mule chest in England.

    3ft width is the best seller with carved panels.

    As Brina says Oak of this age does have wood worm, be careful.
