    I Claim My Free Opi-onion!!!

    Dear Antique Man,
How nice to have your own Forum!

I inherited this clock when my grandfather died. It was in rather a sorry state and I paid £90 to have it cleaned, put back in working order and have the missing foot replaced (not a good job, I know!). I deliberately requested that the original velvet on the plinth not be replaced.
It's been around for more than 80 years that I know of, and I know it's spelter and probably French.

Can you offer any more info, and approximate value?

    Thank you very much.

    hi pedro....
Clocks like the one you show in the photograph are quite common. Some are made of bronze and unfortunately yours is made of spelter.
Your mantel clock was made in Paris, France in about 1900. It only has one hole in the face for the key wind which makes your clock quite basic. It is a shame the foot is missing but the £90 you paid to have the clock restored is well worth it. It may be worth touching up the foot with some gold paint.
The clock is worth retail £225 to £275.
The Dome has a value on its own at about £100. Dealers are always looking for domes to increase the value of a clock.

Remember Pedro a brocken clock tells the time correctly twice a day.
