The British Transport Police ANPR camera van is monitoring the crossing at Duke Street for drivers who attempt to beat the barriers.
BTP take crime at level crossings and level crossing misuse very seriously. Those who behave irresponsibly put lives at risk.
Level Crossing Safety
BTP are working closely with Network Rail to ensure drivers and pedestrians use level crossings properly.
Rail passengers’ lives are put at risk when an obstacle is put in path of a train. Delays while the scene is cleared can be lengthy, and the cost of repairing crossings and equipment after an incident can be huge.

They wouldn't need to be there if they sorted out the timing of the gates. I don't blame people trying to get across when they are often down for 5-10 minutes or more !

Doubt it would save any lives as the barriers are lowered with loads of time to spare so someone running the red light as they are being lowered , is unlikely to be hit by a train, especially when the train is no where near the crossing

I was convinced the other night that the Aughton Road barriers were lowered while the train was still sitting in the platform at Southport – it took that long to turn up.
Someone needs to get a drone up there over a few nice days so we can see exactly what happens!
