Damien Moore has visited the Offshore Rescue Trust in Southport to speak with volunteers and receive an update on the proposals for a new boathouse.

The Trust, which provides a lifeboat and land-based search and rescue service has helped in the safe return of over 250 people since being formed in 1988.

On his visit, Damien was asked to lend his support to the proposals which have faced significant delays owing to the discovery of a sand lizard on land outlined for planning permission and difficulties with Sefton Council despite a lease being since in May 2015.

Commenting on the proposals and the Trusts recent planning difficulties, Damien said:

“I fully support the proposals for a new lifeboat house in Southport. As the Trust has expanded over the years it has sought to move to a new piece of land and invest in a new building. Unfortunately, however, it has run into a number of difficulties with the council and Natural England, which is now costing a significant amount of money and appears to be in a position of gridlock.”

“As the lifeboat centre operates for the benefit of all those in the Sefton area, I am disappointed that this issue has been left unresolved and with this in mind, I have written to the council to request that this matter is expedited for the benefit and safety of all those who live and visit the town.”
