Southport Look For Fifth Consecutive Home Victory On Saturday.
Southport return to Vanarama National League North action on Saturday, a week after the Sandgrounder’s game away at Blyth Spartans was postponed due to extreme weather.
The Port come into the game in excellent form, having posted 6 wins from the last 8 games. Southport have won their last 3 fixtures, and take to the field on Saturday looking for their 5th consecutive home victory.
Southport secured an excellent 3-1 victory against Curzon Ashton two weeks ago, with goals from Jason Gilchrist and Elliot Osborne securing all three points, helped along by Daniel Shaw’s own goal.
Manager Kevin Davies is pleased with the teams preparations, despite the disruption caused by the snowy conditions, meaning the team lost one of their three training sessions this week.
“It has been a little bit disruptive. We try and stagger the week so that our training is geared to the next fixture and how we can win that game. It’s not been ideal but not a huge problem either. It gives the team a little bit of extra time to rest, to come into the game really raring to go.”
“The boys were bright on Monday. They were disappointed to have missed the game on Saturday, so Monday and Tuesday’s sessions were really good, really impressive. We’re confident going into the game.”
Southport’s last meeting with Tamworth was a 3-3 draw at The Lamb where Southport sacrificed the lead late on. Jason Gilchrist became the first Southport player in history to score a hat-trick on his league debut, netting two early goals along with a third in the second half.
