SOUTHPORT DEMENTIA SERVICE SAYS âTHANK YOUâ
TO CARERS WITH MUSICAL STRAWBERRY TEA
A specialist Southport day service for Sefton residents with dementia staged a musical strawberry tea party this week to say âthank youâ to the carers of its clients.
Family and friends of service users at Brookdale Resource Centre in Ainsdale turned out in force for the afternoon event, which featured entertainment by popular Lancashire-based entertainer Mike Palmer, alias The Lounge Singer.
Guests were able to choose from a wide range of strawberry deserts including strawberry gateau, strawberry tarts, strawberry cupcakes and the ever-popular strawberries and cream as they enjoyed Mikeâs selection of musical memories.
Staff at the centre - run by Seftonâs leading adult social care provider, New Directions - organised the strawberry tea to link in with Carers Week, the annual campaign which recognises the contribution made by carers to families and communities, and also highlights the challenges they face.
Brookdale Service Manager, Salwa Moustafa, commented: âThe weather was kind to us this year and the event proved to be a great success, with service users and their guests all tucking into the first-class spread and having a really enjoyable time.
âThe strawberry tea also enabled us to show our support for Carers Week which recognises the efforts of the estimated 6.5 million people across the UK who care unpaid for an ill, frail or disabled family member or friend.
âThis event was our way of saying a big âthank youâ to the people who do such a fantastic job of caring for our Brookdale clients when theyâre at home,â added Mrs Moustafa.
Importantly, Brookdale Resource Centre enables the carers of service users with advanced dementia to have an important respite break.
Clients enjoy a wide range of activities at the centre including arts and crafts, sensory stimulation and music and reminiscence therapies.
