“Emergency services attended Heysham 1 power station following an incident at the site on the evening of Monday 19 November. The three colleagues who were injured have been taken to hospital where they are receiving treatment for their injuries – two at Preston and the other at Wythenshawe.

It goes without saying that everyone’s thoughts are with our three colleagues who have been injured, we will be doing everything we can to support them and their families while they recover. There was no risk to the public during the incident which is now under control. A full investigation into the cause will be carried out. Safety is our overriding priority and we will investigate how this happened and make sure all measures necessary are put in place to ensure it doesn’t happen again. “

If a nuclear power station 30 miles as the crow flies has "an incident" I'd like to know about it!

You are partially correct. This accident is of no consequence to Southport as the damage here has already been done. The beach has already been radioactive for decades and will remain so for centuries to come irrespective of any "official" denials. Be prepared for the consequencies to your health if you spend more than a few hours there; these consequencies are neither immediate nor pleasant but they are permanent!

Thats a bit of a simplistic statement from someone who obviously doesn't have a clue about what they are taking about,,There are no Gamma or Xray hotspots on the beach,However there are places in the Ribble estuary which contain beta hotspots so we can assume that there may well be some on the beach,You would have to spend time on one of these hotspots to receive any cellular damage and be right on top of one as Beta particles can only travel about one Meter,Now i agree this is unsatisfactory and the hotspots do need mapping ,Most Beta radiation is emitted from tritium which has a half life of around 12,7 years,But your hysterical post is just scaremongering rubbish,Sorry the beach is safe unless you spend hours rolling round in the mud and then don't wash it off.Not only that but people with a mentality like yours are responsible for the climate damage,,It is essential we devote much more resources to Nuclear power which is both clean and sustainable.

You are an imbecilic useless toerag.
My life has been ruined and all you can do is put forward utterly stupid nonsense.
I REPEAT...DO NOT SPEND ANY SUBSTANTIAL TIME ON THE BEACH UNLESS YOU TOO WANT TO END UP LIKE ME!!!
Nuclear power "clean and sustanable"? You need putting into an insane asylum if you believe that!

I have spent substantial amounts of time on Southport beach, and knowing the results of radioactivity monitoring on the beach, I haven't been concerned about that. I don't think I've ended up like you. The accident at Heysham had nothing to do with the reactor, so I expect of negligible radiological consequence.
