The travellers that descended on Formby yesterday, Tuesday 12th June, have now left the National Trust site at Lifeboat Road and have descended on Duke Street Park via the open gate.

There appears to be around forty caravans and vehicles on the Phillips Lane side of the park that take up virtually the whole length of the park.

An unauthorised encampment of travellers has moved into Lifeboat Road in Formby this morning, Tuesday 12th June 2018. The site, which now belongs to the National Trust has been descended on by at least fifteen travellers vans along with cars.

A spokeswoman from National Trust Formby said: "Approximately 15 traveller vehicles are currently parked on land looked after by the National Trust at Lifeboat Road, Formby. This area is open to the public to enjoy and is an important area for conservation also. We are liaising closely with the police to serve notice to leave. We will continue to monitor the situation and have asked the police to do so too."

A spokeswoman from Merseyside Police said: "This is a civil matter between the land owners and the travellers. We will monitor the situation and see how it goes."

A spokesperson for Sefton Council said: "Sefton Council provide a permanent site for Gypsies and Travellers in Sefton. The site is located at Red Rose Park, Broad Lane, Formby L37 0AH."

"We do not provide a transit site for Gypsies and Travellers moving through the borough seeking a short stay. As a result this can lead to unauthorised encampments. We have an Unauthorised Encampment Policy to manage these encampments in a way that addresses both the support needs of the Gypsies and Travellers and the rights of the settled community."

In order to move the Travellers, the land owner, in this case, The National Trust, is bound by a legal process. A Section 77 Notice will be served on the Travellers and if they do not move on, the land owner will have to obtain a signed summons from the court which will be served on the Travellers. This summons provides the Travellers notice of a court date, whereby, the National Trust will seek a removal order. On possession of the removal order the National Trust will then arrange for the Travellers to be removed, if they have not vacated prior to this themselves. This could take a week or more.

Residents have shown frustration over this issue and in particular their concerns regarding anti-social behaviour of the Travellers and any such incidents should continue to be reported to the police.

The National Trust is doing all that it can to seek the removal of the Travellers.

Probably on their way back from Appleby, they'll be back on the ferry in a day or two.

Some of these travellers have already been in Southport, a couple were seen to be driving at dangerous speeds in town, high on something. So everyone be on your guard.

Local authorities in Appleby are wanting to ban this highly unpopular festival - the residents there do not want it. It is time that these travellers were made to obey the same laws that everyone else has to, it is ridiculous to state that as a minority group they have their own laws and that they do not recognise our laws!

And still no one arrested or charged with the Thwaites brewery break in and vandalism in Blackburn.

I think we are all aware that Thwaites are due to move to another site, but the damage done in Blackburn has forced the closure of the brewery before any planned move and as you say no-one arrested or charged, the laws mean nothing to these scum.

There should be a new law introduced whereby anyone found parking illegally should have their vehicles and everything contained in those vehicles confiscated by the authorities.

But the police had them, inside the brewery site, banged to rights, and then they let them go.

The Police have long ago abandoned their place and busied themselves with political issues before basic policing.

You call them as a last resort preparing yourself for disappointment.

Get yourself a label and you automatically have their attention.

Why is someone parking on your land dumping rubbish, vandalising it and using it as a base for criminal behavior a civil matter ?

I believe the reason (excuse) was not enough manpower to deal with the numbers involved, mob rule wins.

Saw the scumbags dealt with very effectively when they moved on to Burscough Industrial estate some years back, one of the haulage contractors dropped two containers across the entrance then informed the travellers that said containers would be moved only when they had hitched up their vans, cleared the rubbish and were ready to go, they went and to the best of my knowledge have never returned.

We have the laws over trespass. If you trespass and told to leave it then becomes aggravated trespass and is an arrestable offence. The problem is with the police who do not want to upset people and would rather go after people saying nasty things on line. I recon the Police refuse to do their job because of some PC dic tac regarding the treatment of travellers. Let's face it the country is run by idiots.
