The cheek of it! If they want people to work for their profit making venture they should bloody well pay them.

It's always been run by volunteers. Has anyone thought maybe Norman bought this to try keep some heritage in this decaying town. Not everything is about money.

Wrong .it was privately owned by John Spencer for years before selling it on to other investors.
As far as I know it's never been voluntery run..
It's not cheap to run but would be nice to see it run volentry with profits going to charity.

Should I have worded it better? It has always had Volunteers, Same as Heskthbank steam engine and Windmill farm railway. Even Llangollen railway has many volunteers, and these are just the ones I have had experience with (not as a volunteer just to clear that up).
Lakeside has been run into the ground and needs a massive investment both financially and time wise to bring it anything like a decent standard. These things DON'T EXIST without volunteers. No one is forcing anyone to do anything they don't want to.
Some people love gardening, trains, tinkering, socializing all of which can be done doing something like this.

But aren't the railways you mention solely operated and managed by volunteers?
That's surely different to a private business asking for volunteers to help run part of its operation?
I have every respect for what Norman Wallis has done with Pleasureland and perhaps his intentions with regards to the railway may be better explained by him rather than roving-eye happening to see the sign and posting a picture of it.
Whilst I'm sure the Lakeside will need a lot of work done before it's likely to turn a profit but if Pleasureland are going to be receiving revenue from ticket sales then they should be paying the people that will be running it.

Really don't know why he bothers, We are not worthy.
Get rid of it and put some nursing homes on it.

I would imagine he runs a business for the purpose of making money.
Not worthy of what? Working for nothing? I should think so too.
Get rid of it and put some nursing homes on it.
The site may be a bit too narrow for that but at least it would provide paid employment for the people building them and working in them.

One of the more entertaining aspects of this site is when one of the usual suspects posts a knee jerk piece, then watching the increasingly lame posts attempting to justify the original.

Well there you go. A few more of the miserable Southport wan***s off again 'why do it for nothing, should be paid'
Bet you want paying £25 an hour with seven tea breaks a day. Why not give a couple of hours of your time to help improve the town and bring some funds in. I do all the time. Might even improve your health being outside or cheer you up you miserable cretins.
Too many di*kheads in this town pulling it down.

Already have a full time job thanks but given that there are plenty people who don't then perhaps it would be better for the town if one of its attractions actually created jobs.

Perhaps jobs will be created from "Volunteer" work to start with, at least the guy is trying with Pleasureland and now the LMR. If people don't want to volunteer they wont simple as that!!
SBW, you are spot on, whatever someone tries to do there is always some knobhead willing to do them down, its not a Southport disease, but at times reflective of the whole bloody country.

But I'm guessing you do zero voluntary work.
As I've already posted there are lots of people that will be happy to do something like this, Often retired, Sometimes isolated, this is a great opportunity to get out and about doing something they like.
