Watched it for the first time in years and clearly, politics have changed.

So we had a great run to second place with Ukraine eventually winning, which just felt right.

Our song was perfect for the contest.

The Ukraine song was not up to much but it didn't matter.

Still, some surprising points were awarded.

Don't get too excited on the basis of Eurovision but the UK is blinking into the light.

Nothing to do with politics in the previously envisaged sense, but all to do with the majority of the western world population's massive condemnation of Russia and Putin's invasion of Ukraine.

We won the battle, but lost the war (and just as it should be in this case) via the results of the juries and public voting systems.

It's very revealing that the hard-of-thinking have to come up with the most ridiculous, evidence-free theories about a "Europe-wide conspiracy against the UK" that seems to have inexplicably disappeared since 2021.

The objective, evidence-based view is quite simple - previous UK entries just weren't very good, compared to this year's which was excellently suited to the competition.

Did you notice too that the public votes delivered the message that they were not happy, in fact not happy at all, over France and Germany's somewhat muted response to the needs of Ukraine in the war against Russia? Hence their poor points totals.

I quite like Ukraine's entry. It amuses me no end when the quirky and bizarre perform.

I liked the hand washing Serbian singing about Meghan Markle's lovely hair. And the 'give the wolf a banana' entry.

It was fairly obvious that Ukraine would win if they just stood there blowing raspberries, but nobody seemed to mind. It helped us that Russia is the big bad wolf of Eurovision this year. Our song was head and shoulders above our recent entries, which also helped.

Music and high camp. Pretty good Saturday night.

We had a very likable entry, with a likable man in a time when we are seen in a better light internationally.

Only the bigoted short thinkers deny the obvious?

The same politics propelled Ukraine to the top and that was great.

Was Germany's entry really so bad that they deserved no points?

Celebrate our newfound international appeal who knows how long it will last.

By the Way - anyone know how the Ukraine managed to stage anything while under war conditions - difficult from an underground bunker to say the least. Didn't nasty old Russia disturb their practising? Where's Ukraine going to get the money to host next year's competition?

They didn't stage anything, it was held in Turin.

A good chunk of Ukraine is functioning, hence the likes of Johnson, von der Leyen and other dignitaries hopping over for photo ops.

According to Zelenskyy:

For the third time in its history. And as I believe: Not the last. We will do our utmost to one day host the participants and visitors of Eurovision in Ukrainian Mariupol. Free, peaceful and rebuilt!

In the event that it cannot host there, it will host in another European country with the cooperation of that country's broadcaster. As it would if Australia won it.

How do you know what is happening in the Ukraine? I know it is nowhere near as serious as the media is making out because I deal with several products made there and I have not had any delays.

More media claptrap or the war is being hugely exaggerated. You do realise that flights to the Ukraine are supposedly suspended - anyone wanting to travel to the Ukraine, would need to get to Poland, cross the border and travel about 350 miles - trains are not running. As we are told. So, if the war is as devastating as it is claimed - all these people (and there are supposed to be hundreds from all over the world if you believe the media) travelling to the Ukraine, who will have to dodge both Ukrainian soldiers and Russian Soldiers who I do not think will just let anyone wander around posing for photos if a war was ongoing They would be arrested no matter who they are, and you would not hear from them for months.

There are no longer any war correspondents who had special reasons for being present. Are there also tour groups with a group leader holding an umbrella up high for group members to follow? Can they stop for meals and beer on their way round?
