Getting rid of the 20mph limits by some councils
Hoping that local authorities do the same .....Fed up of "crawling around the roads, using MORE fuel, and taking longer to get to where I am
going..'What we need is a dynamic 20mph limit in "certain areas at certain times of day"................Next job hopefully........Getting rid of the cycle lanes around the town, expensive to put in,they are grossly under used, don't believe everything the council says with their estimated figures, and they are effecting businesses, and taking up much needed parking areas, especially for visitors to the area..

Considering that the blanket limit is largely ignored, won’t make much difference apart from stirring some individuals into panic attacks and a rash of angry posts.

From Shore Rd to Carr Lane is 20mph, even the busses on that route exceed 20mph! Why, can anybody explain why Heathfield Rd is 20mph and its continuation onto Guildford Rd is 30mph ?

Shore road (Station Rd?) to Carr Lane is 30 mph if you travel via Liverpool rd.

Please do not confuse me with a Fail reader, have always felt that the blanket speed limit was bound to be largely ignored, limits in the appropriate area have a much better chance of being respected, like it or not that is the reality.

In blanket schemes, as speed limits must be, there will be many examples of apparent anomalies such as this.

It wasn’t aimed at you Mr Silver Fox. It was in anticipation of the inevitable ‘outraged from Southport’ replies.

I can't see the problem with reading the "Daily Mail" a good selection of opinions is sensible.
I often quote the Socialist Worker and I don't think many would have me down as our leading Socialist.
I even read the admitted liars who write in the Guardian many of their own have left over the lies and mistruths they print.
It's amazing how many on here have swallowed their lies over the years.

I note most residential 20mph roads are also much 'under-used'. Why don't we narrow them down to single-lane, let residents adopt the remainder of the space with planters, garden swings, seating, etc. And restrict motor vehicle access to 'residents only'. Should be a popular move, and I beleve many residents would undoubtedly be in favour.

You’ve finally totally lost it, no-one drives along any road without reason, plus of course where does anyone decide which roads to class as residential, sure as hell it won’t be decided by someone like you, with your attitude.

Leave the main roads as-is and convert the rest.....Easily and cheaply done with a pair of box planters at either end, along with 'NO ENTRY' plates (residents, taxis & bikes excepted).

so that would force all traffic to use one road thus creating jams and chaos and even more pollution. Vehicles are more efficient when they are moving not stuck in traffic

With so many quiet and safe streets about, I believe once folk saw it was safe to cycle, a proportion of that motor traffic would turn into bikes. At end of day, it would have to be done on a fair and democratic basis. Each street would be individually polled and no street converted against its residents wishes - what's not to like?
