Your maths are a bit out, mate...How can 10million cyclists be uninsured, when there's only 7.61 on the road and a fair proportion of those are sports-riders with insurance?

Agreed, but there is a current way to trace motorists, unless the cyclist is stuck to the bonnet or under the wheels there's nothing to stop them from doing a runner.

Assuming it was their car that crashed, tracing is usually possible....But so is phoning-in a stolen car report, to escape the blame.

Clutching at straws to make a point is the phrase I would use now. With traffic cams, dash cams and cctv it's hard to deny responsibility for car drivers.

Cyclists need to be able to be identified!
Identifiable.
They should also be insured and so should mobility scooter riders.

Not to mention all the drunk-drivers who do runners, only to be traced later when nicely sobered-up - duh!

And the cycling imbecile still hasn't made a serious comment on my original post!
I wonder why?

Exactly the same can happen if you ignore a red light and a motor vehicle has right of way.
But our resident cycling imbecile will blame the driver again.
Depends who's doing the driving....I'd have seen the bloke before he even got to the junction and been covering the brake. Typically, this driver however just sailed straight on - duh!

Think you'll find most mobility scooter owners are, unlike cyclists when you buy a scooter you're advised to get the insurance as it's only a few quid a month and covers you up to a million quid.

Wrong, it's a pure myth put-about by the motoring fraternity.... As I mentioned earlier, almost all those sports cyclists you see about, are insured. Membership of British Cycling is inexpensive and comes inclusive of third-party cover. Fact: without insurance, cyclists will not be able to ride with their club.
Not to mention the £2,000 of tax they are likely to have paid to the Govt in VAT, on that fancy £10k carbon-fire roadbike. Or that in the unlikely event of a hit-and-run, the cycling clubs name being emblazoned across their jersey, would be an excellent aid in tracking a rider down. And have you ever seen a 'lycra lout' without a helmet?
