Absolutely! But this doesn't change a thing.
Remember the original comment stated that only 1.2 million Brits preferred to live in the EU? This was provided as evidence that living in the EU was less attractive to Brits, when compared to the 3.7 million EU citizens who have chosen to live in the UK. This is obviously untrue, and your comment, quite rightly, provides one of the reasons why a higher percentage of the British population wants to live in an EU country. The facts remain the same. A higher percentage of Brits prefer to live in the EU than vice versa.

Interesting looking at the details of those figures.

Nope! 0.23% of Brits live in the EU while 0.72% EU citizens in the UK.
The total population of the EU is 517 million. This is your 100% figure. Using the numerical figures given above, you need to find the fraction of Brits compared to a fraction of the EU.
However, the fraction of British people travelling to the EU out of the total British people in the UK, is obviously going to be larger than the fraction of EU people out of 7x the number of people. The figures have to be normalised against the population figures.

Like I've said before, I've nothing against any colour, be it black, brown, red or yellow.......I do though, object to foreigners sneaking across the Channel in their thousands without visas or healthchecks, etc. Not only are they bringing in and spreading Covid, there are other nasties carried with them, like antibiotic-resistant TB, etc.
If say an Afghani's circumstances give him the right to asylum, why hasn't he claimed it at his local British Consulate in Kabul - or perhaps he has and been refused? This would have saved a long and perilous journey and the expense of paying people-smugglers. He could simply have gone to an operational airport and bought a flight ticket!
Therefore, I wouldn't be surprised if the main reason 'clandestines' head over here in cheap dinghies, is because they have already been refused asylum at one of our Embassies.

Since August 2021, the embassy has been operating from Doha, Qatar. .

There are documentation restrictions on boarding ferries & planes, if the passenger doesn't have the correct papers the company is liable, if those restrictions were to be removed all this human disaster in the Channel would be removed.

Patel's endless posturing about this adds another unpleasant element.
We need to remember that the people getting in these boats are breaking no law in France.
What on earth is the incentive for France to help? They already have many more immigrants to cope with than we do.

These documentation restrictions are called border control, the correct papers you talk about are called leave ( permission ) to enter. It’s a given that if you remove border control anyone could appear from anywhere on a first class flight, it may be safer than underneath a lorry or by small dingy but it’s a bit of a defeatist attitude to just open our borders that sort of defeats the point.
I can’t believe you have written that unless it was an attempt at sarcasm

No attempt at sarcasm just reality.
Most arriving are actually entitled to claim asylum, if they were allowed to travel safely then processed immediately anybody not entitled could be returned to where they came from, in the case of the ferries - France.. The key to all this is prompt processing and not a free holiday in a hotel.

No you don’t understand that they can’t just appear and try to claim asylum on arrival anymore thd rules have changed to stop that ( or try to ) they must apply to a British embassy in their own or the last safe country they are in, ie France for leave to enter on whatever grounds or visa, asylum being one of them . Lots ignore this fact and lots apply and are rejected but float over anyway … passport less claiming they are from unsafe places until they get detained here and sussed then deported, if they haven’t already run off into society.
By the way your post was worded I thought you were suggesting all visas and paperwork should be scrapped and just let them in THEN sort them out, but no they must apply and be processed at a British embassy before given the correct paperwork to enter that’s the way it’s done now, or supposed to be .
Most that arrive actually are not eligible to claim asylum as they have come from a safe country or through one .

Rubbish the guidelines say you should apply when you arrive or as soon as you believe it will unsafe to return home.

It seems you are right, AS SOON as you arrive IF you believe it will be unsafe to return home at the border you enter you must declare yourself even Boris was under the same thinking when his speech said you enter illegally you will be treated as an illegal immigrant and although I still think the rules changed a while ago to where you had to ask for leave to enter in your own country I now think this might apply to more safe countries regarding work, study or marriage visas or suchlike and not war zones where there may not be a British embassy, but there’s one in France!!.
Legal immigration is ok by me I have said that before but I would like to see those who appear and try to trick the system then disappear into Uk caught imprisoned and deported solely on safety grounds. The odd thing is you won’t legally get near our borders without thd correct paperwork like a passport and including leave to enter .
