To day, one of Footballs most famous players of the 1960's came in and signed the famous Black Book.
Thanks Tony it was Great to meet you.
TONY KAY EVERTON and ENGLAND Footballer.
http://www.toffeeandtayto.com/TonyKay.htm
Tony Kay played for Everton in 1963
To a generation of Evertonians, Tony Kay remains a great player and ex-captain, still fondly remembered by all who saw him play in the Royal Blue - and those who grew up with an appreciation of those great days.
...............................................
Tony Kay (born 13 May 1937) is a former Everton player who became notorious after being banned from the professional game for life following the British betting scandal of 1964.
Born in Sheffield, Tony played for Sheffield Wednesday before becoming Britain's most expensive footballer when transferred to Everton for £60,000 in 1962. Kay was capped once for England.
In 1964, the Sunday People broke the story that Kay, along with fellow Sheffield Wednesday players David Layne and Peter Swan, had bet on their side to lose. The three were convicted of conspiracy to defraud, Kay on the basis of a taped conversation, one of the first times such evidence was admitted in an English court. He was fined £150 and sentenced to four months imprisonment. On his release, after serving ten weeks, he was banned from football for life by the Football Association though the ban was rescinded seven years later.
Kay spent 12 years in Spain, He has since worked as a groundsman and 2006 moved to Southport.
He is portrayed by Jason Isaacs in the 1997 TV film The Fix, directed by Paul Greengrass, which tells the story of the scandal which ended his career.
I asked Tony about the ban and he told me " know-one will ever understand what I went through. Being banned from football was my worst nightmare. I sympathize with Onthespot and what he has gone through being banned from Southport FC for life for taking a photograph and he was not even on the football ground property, Onthespot was just doing his job."
Tony Kay was banned for life but it was rescinded after 7 years. Compared with what Onthespot did Tony "said I sympathize with Phil Rodwell (Onthespot) that was unfair and it is not just to get a lifetime ban for such a trivial act."

If you post on SGB or just browse and would like to be 231st person to sign the Black Book then just drop in to the shop.
You do not have to be famous or even have your photograph taken if you don't want to, but it adds that special touch.
It's a bit of fun and social history.
The Victorians had a book like this.
But the SGB Black Book is the first of it's kind in the Computer Age.

Andy Mutch professional footballer called into the shop today to sign the Black Book. Great to see you and thanks for the Johnny Cash song. Don't forget to think of me on Christmas day
Mutchy a long time fan of Liverpool and born in the City. Was an apprentice with both Liverpool and Everton, but was never offered professional terms and joined non-league Southport. His goalscoring talent was soon spotted in February 1986 when Wolves manager Sammy Chapman gave him another chance to make the grade at Molineux.
He made his debut the following month in a 0-0 draw against Rotherham Utd and ended the season with 7 goals in 15 games but Wolves were relegated to the Fourth Division.
Midway through the 1986-87 season he began to form a deadly scoring partnership with Steve Bull, Wolves lost in the play-off final that season to Aldershot, but won the Fourth Division Championship in 1987-88 season. That season Mutchy and Bully scored 53 of Wolves 82 goals with Mutch's share being 19. Wolves also won the Sherpa Van Trophy in 1988 when Mutch scored the first goal in the 2-0 win over Burnley in the Wembley final.
In the 1988-89 season the deadly duo netted 58 of the club's 96 goals to win the Third Division Championship. In the summer of 1989 his marksmanship was rewarded by England B honours when he played against Switzerland, Norway and Iceland.
Mutch continued to score for Wolves in the Second division (which became Division One when the Premiership was formed), although he missed a lot of the 1990-91 season he got his first hat-trick for Wolves against Newcastle Utd in a 6-2 home win in March 92.
He had scored 105 goals in 338 first-team games for Wolves when, in the summer of 1993, he was surprisingly allowed to join Premiership new boys Swindon Town for £250,000. He had scored 12 goals in 64 games when, just five games into the 1995-96 season, he was loaned to Wigan Athletic from August 95 to September 95, but after the clubs failed to agree terms on a permanent move he returned to Swindon until April 1996 when he moved to Stockport County.
He scored a hat-trick in a 4-2 win over promotion rivals Oxford Utd and later played an important role in Stockport's promotion to Division One and them reaching the semi-finals of the League Cup.
In July 1998 Mutch left Stockport to sign for Conference side Barrow, later rejoining his old club Southport in January 1999 before linking up with Telford Utd early in 1999 as player/ assistant manager.
Like so many footballers, Andy had his superstitions, always running out second on to the field and putting his kit on in the same order week in, week out.
Wolves Record: 325/13 appearances 105 goals.
He also has played in the Premiership at Anfield and scored against Man U.

5th March 2010 the Black Book went on tour today.
Herbert Silcock now aged 83 is one of Southport's most respected residents signed the Black Book today outside his world famous carousel ride.
The Silcock Family have been entertaining people for generations with their fair ground amusements. In 1959 Herbert and his wife Jane moved to Pleasureland Southport to start a business that has grown into an amusement empire which has spread up the coast to Blackpool. Everyone, from the young to the old who visits Southport will always remember the famous Silcocks Carousel.
I felt very honoured that Herbert found time from his busy schedule to sign the Black Book.
Herbert, I love hearing all the great stories you tell.
You should write a book.
All the best.
John.
