…behaving in bad faith?
Given the petty vindictive actions of the EU over the last few weeks (the Government could invoke Article 16 of the Northern Ireland Protocol if the EU continues its bad faith behaviour - yes "bad faith" is a standard international trade term/clause), and the EU putting exports before principles with its recent agreement with China, reiterates that the UK electorate were probably right in voting to leave the EU. — post #292
Let us not forget that David Cameron and George Osborne courted China vigorously in the face of objections from allies and human rights activists.
Also, "petty" and "vindictive" are equally applicable to our UK government.
If it is the case that the UK voted to depart the EU for the sake of "principles", it is not altogether clear what those principles are; but we are going to pay for them, nevertheless.

Out of the mix of good and bad that Trump did his approach to China was spot on, the stirrings are about again of the Wuhan labs involvement.
Not the finest but the Daily Mail has been following this;
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...Wuhan-lab.html
New cover-up fears as Chinese officials delete critical data about the Wuhan lab with details of 300 studies vanishing - including all those carried out by virologist dubbed Batwoman
It is so reminiscent of Hans Blix arriving far too late for the weapons of mass destruction that we all knew Saddam had and used.
China will have spent weeks/months "preparing" for their feeble puppets W.H.O visits.

…not BREXIT again!
And Theresa May vigorously courted Huawei despite the concerns of the "Five Eyes" community.
Thank goodness that policy has now been dropped, and it will be interesting to see if Liverpool City Council's overtures to China for investment is scaled back?
PS do you always automatically take the corrupt, undemocratic, protectionist EU point of view over the UK??
Liverpool City Council's overtures to China were part of the UK government's trade & inward investment junkets. [Nice diversionary touch, though.]
I was never an enthusiastic supporter of the EU. I advocate more responsive, democratically accountable governmental institutions at all levels.
It's ironic that this exchange occurs in the thread: Brexit again
Many have argued that BREXIT will enable transparently virtuous foreign and trade policies. Chance would be a fine thing! We'll watch and see how the UK's trade policies work vis-à-vis China and other deplorable regimes.

No diversion, but it was under the Cameron/Osbourne trade and investment policy that no longer applies under this administration. — post #298
We do not yet know what applies under this administration.
This administration is arguably the least competent administration in living memory. It is faced with Hydra-headed policy conundrums in the most trying circumstances since, probably, the second world war.
Why is it that we have this collection of clowns running the government? It is because • our political institutions have only ever been minimally democratic;
• our representatives emphatically DO NOT represent the population, well; and
• there is currently no incentive or pressure among MPs for change. That could change, too!

Aren't you pleased we left and went on our own with the vaccines?
We are so far ahead because we left.

If the focus is to put blame onto China - then we know it is the Americans for sure.

Sounding like this was very probably Chinas (biological) Chernobyl. If this pandemic did originate in the lab, the world would want compensation....No wonder evidence has been conveniently 'lost' - duh!

One swallow doth not the summer make, as far as the vaccine programme is concerned, we would have had the choice of being part of the EU programme or go on our own.
Brexit has got absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with the vaccine programme, the scheme within the EU is still the responsibility of individual countries, the EU plan was a bulk buying plan only.

It was a bit more than a bulk buying scheme but still your grudging appreciation of the ides of summer is a breakthrough and you might just imagine that its indicative of the way the EU works, well not straight away.

I was referring to the one area where currently we appear to be performing well, just remember this entire scheme has some way to go before we can celebrate.

The only thing to celebrate is we had the wit to distance ourselves from the EU for our vaccine programme.

If only we had the wit to not shoot ourselves in both feet in the first place, in or out of the EU, we would have had every right to make our own decisions as regards combatting C19 and the vaccination programme, are you getting desperate looking for positives for Brexit?
