Goods exports from the UK to the EU reached £16.9bn in May, the highest level since figures started in 1997.

Ignoring the funny hyperlink, it is just so depressing when posters show zero understanding of even basic maths or economics.

Let's do this in baby steps.

1 - I quote:

"The ONS said that goods exports to the EU reached £16.9bn in May, their highest level since the series began in 1997. Much of that was due to surging prices, however, and once the effects of inflation were stripped out, exports to the bloc peaked at £13.9bn, the highest since December 2020."

So, due to a simple effect, the actual statement instantly becomes a little less impressive - highest since 2020, not 1997.

2 - The trade deficit is what actually matters, the difference between the value of imports and exports. "UK imports continue to grow faster than exports, official data showed on Wednesday, pushing the trade deficit wider." So even if exports are increasing in value, the deficit is still widening.

3 - An individual piece of data from one month is almost useless - it is the trend that matters. "According to the Office for National Statistics, imports of goods rose by £20.2bn or 14.6% in the three months to May 2022, while exports increased by £10.7bn or 12.6%.As a result, the trade in goods deficit, excluding volatile precious metals, widened by £9.5bn to £63.1bn in the three months to May 2022 compared to the previous three months."

Not surprising, since many will want the opportunity to study in an EU State, learn a second language, open up employment, career and business prospects across the Continent....And when the time comes, have the option of a second/retirement home located in a warmer, drier climate.

A hilarious fact-free fluff piece, that admits that "the short-term impacts of leaving the Union were negative" but in his opinion, the future looks bright. Brilliant!

You've got to laugh when anyone from the almost legendary IEA is wheeled out to back up somebody's opinion.
This time it's Julian Jessop - if you are tempted to believe anything from the IEA, just look up "55 Tufton Street" and "dark money". I hope some light will dawn.

So Julian says the UK's gdp has grown more than France and Germany. Try finding any corroboration. I've been looking at https://www.statista.com/statistics/...est-economies/ and it looks completely the other way from their data, but who knows? Can you place a value on losing your freedom of movement?

Are all their roads full of potholes? How many food banks do they have? How many baby banks do they have? Do they have public transport systems that work? Are their local councils running out of money?

I could go on, but I'm trying to keep smiling at your acceptance of the guff you keep being fed.

To be consistent, populists should really take note of the current poll-of-polls for rejoining the EU, of course.


Currently it's 59% 41% in favour of rejoining.
We will, in the end, it's just a matter of time.

The usual mish-mash but you can't help wondering why the Labour Party sees no benefit in rejoining the EU and even the Lib Dems have stepped back,

but why, surely we can believe all those polls telling us the punters want it?

Even the useless Andrew Bailey is saying the remoaners were wrong about the City but with his record, I don't think it adds much.

Can't these people read the polls doesn't Bailey need to keep his job

Sir Beir has already sold his soul countless times, one last flip embrace the EU and he can start measuring up the Downing Street flat surely, don't they buy newspapers watch the TV ?

Wave that blue flag and it's a cert, those polls are always right.
