Read my post again....Not 'blocked', simply thinned-down with a pair of planters to single vehicle width. Emy vehicles, delivery vans and bin-waggons can pass through as can residents cars, taxis and of course bikes.

The problem with polling individual streets it would lead to fragmentation of the cycle route.
What we need is to create is more 'Play Streets' to get rid of the rat runs in the areas of schools not just outside the school gates.

No streets get blocked off at both ends.

Yes, it could result in fragmentation, at least initially. But for this type of scheme to be truly welcome by a street's residents, it's necessary to get them on-side. When folk on streets who have declined, see how attractive the results are elsewhere, they may then change their mind.

OK, I live in a fairly normal residential area, to get to and from my home I use wholly or partially 4 different streets with 20 mph limits, 3 of the 4 are actually bus routes, 2 streets are definitely the only feeder routes to other streets, tell where would you propose putting your exclusion zones?

This idealistic notion of reclaiming the streets may sound attractive, but in the vast majority of cases completely divorced from reality, may work for a very limited number of streets, but this will certainly not create your fantasy land of cycle routes.

Whilst I'm sure it would work for many streets, you do have a point. E.g. how to gain motorised access to/from a street that's 'boxed-in' and surrounded by residents-only streets. Traffic planners would have to take that into consideration when designing the schemes, to ensure residents car access was maintained to all properties.

Btw, it's not just about 'bikes', it's about giving people back their streets. Turning them into safe pleasant places to be, free from through-traffic with all its associated risk and noise.

As usual this all about your perverse wish to eliminate the private car at all costs, the problem for you and those who may think like you, the majority relish the freedom of travel that only the private car can deliver.

    The correct term is "BUSES"

You can tell that with all the cars outside the new Sainsbury's and not one bicycle.

I have never seen anyone being done for exceeding 20mph.

    But I support it staying.

Because I think many motorists probably do 25-27 mindful of the limit whereas in a 30 road they may do 37-38. And I am glad of that.

I am also glad for the no entry into the Belmont-Duke section of Talbot St . It has greatly reduced speeds coming from Aughton Road whereas before people really accelerated before the Duke St junction.

Although there are a few every day who think the restriction does not apply to them.

That might change this weekend, if it stays dry long enough!
