I'll be nearly 80 years of age by then so I probably will have an electric vehicle - the only difference being it is likely to have four small wheels and a handlebar

From what I was told you were doing last week - that will be a long way off.

I'm now 100% electric for personal transport, took delivery this Summer....But how many wheels it has; two, three or four, I'm not saying.

Still got your smoky old diesel vans though, to carry your smoky old wood burners about in, often at speeds +/- 10% of the legal speed limit, HYPOCRITE!!

There has to be an alternative to Electric vehicles as the National Grid will collapse otherwise, whether it be Hydrogen or clockwork.

Not forgetting that the government are to ban gas boilers on new builds for central heating and hot water, so even more load on the National Grid whether electric boilers or heat pumps.

Our modern stoves are all Govt (DEFRA Approved) and far removed from the traditional image of a 'smoky old wood burner'. You would be hard pressed to see any smoke come from one.

Fyi, the works vehicles are split 50-50, with one petrol and one diesel. The diesel unit is tasked with conveyance of heavy product and/or materials, while the petrol unit is in operation for lighter tasks......Suggest you have a go at artic drivers and bus drivers first - they do way more diesel miles than us!

The manufacture of the batteries is completely ignored, the mining of the Colbalt is just like coal mining and is often carried out by child labour, also much of the earths resevres are on the ocean floor.

I know it’s a chicken and egg scenario, but if it’s going to happen they need to put the basics in place first.

All the energy currently used by vehicles which must be a massive amount will need to be put into the Electicity Generation system then the National Grid will need upgrading to carry the increased load to all the new Substations that will need to be built / installed before you can mass install charging points. The present roll out of the odd point here and there is totally inadequate for current needs never mind the future.

I think you must have mistaken me for someone else. The most exciting thing I do nowadays is the weekly shop at Tesco and the odd bit of DIY.

Many of us probably limit our imagination to the detail that the engines in our vehicles seem set to change — internal combustion replaced by electric (or hydrogen) — but otherwise the patterns of our lives will be an extrapolation of the patterns we've become familiar with over the past 70 years, or so. Put another way, we suppose that our driving habits and the patterns of our settlements will be largely unchanged. If that turns out to be the case, then we will not have deflected the trajectory of climate change or pollution by very much.

If you are concerned about Climate Change and pollution, then exchanging your SUV for an e-SUV, simply doesn't 'cut it ' !
