Consultations concluded in December in Southport on the Liveable Neighbourhood Scheme with growing opposition from members of the public. Two facebook groups have been particularly active in opposing the scheme, namely Southport Against Cycle Lane Expansion and Southport says NO to Rd blockages

Whilst the cycle lane proposals are currently on hold residents are awaiting the next developments on the Liveable Neighbourhood Sheme for Southport.

Pictured above in Yew Tree Road, Ormskirk, this is what a 'modal filter' looks like where a road is closed to all but pedestrians and cyclists at one end. Several are planned in the Southport plans as shown below.

The image from Ormskirk attracted a lot of comments in the 'Southport Against Cycle Lane Expansion' group.

It is not a new thing, councils have to be seen to embrace the crackpot ideas from central government to get grants to waste on more crackpot ideas.
it’s to allow little ***** on bikes to rob from your home and avoid the police chasing them by ducking through the gaps also to slow down ambulances trying to get to your home to save your life and to make life harder for bin men trying to do their job , all the while the toss pots at the council claim grant money for it .
This may seem rather blunt so accept apologies.
so ugly doesnt do the neighbourhood any charm.yuk.plus very dangerous at night not lit up
Sefton Labour Council sit there slagging off a Tory Government but can’t wait to get their grubby hands in free money from them which in no way benefits the people in their wards
I've seen this ,think it's yew tree rd. Used to drive through there but have to use main Rds now.
And ..what if an emergency vehicle needs to get through?
I never seen anything so stupid!
Why are councils trying to waste public money when there are so many good things that could be done with it.
they could not make a street look any uglier,or dangerous,if they have spare cash how about fixing the state of the pavements and roads
It’s a joke. These are going to be used in Southport’s liveable streets bull crap. They are going to block off Southbank road at the roundabout and the junction of Portland st and lord st..

In Ormskirk there has been a petition against them - Qlocal news story from November

    I am concerned about this.
While I support the effort to reduce and slow traffic, where we live in Talbot Street I don't think they have thought through the implications.
In particular, the refuse lorries and more significantly the artics which deliver to the One Stop shop; the alternative routes in and out present difficult turns at tricky angles where cars are often parked close to the junction.

Would you honestly expect anything more from John Fairclough and Sefton Council?

We have a home here and another on the Isle of Wight.
They are roughly comparable properties but the council tax on the IOW is higher.
The council on the IOW is some way behind Sefton in efficiency and value for money.
