Southport residents could face a big increase in their council tax bills, by way of Parish precept, if Sefton Council agrees a motion put forward by local Conservative councillors.

At the full council meeting being held in Bootle Town Hall this Thursday, Tory leader councillor Terry Jones is proposing that Sefton Council should pursue the creation of a Parish Council for Southport.

Such a Parish Council would be the largest in Sefton by a long way and would be able to charge an extra council tax precept on top of the council tax already paid to Sefton Council. The current largest parish or town council in Sefton, Maghull, charges £98 extra on a band D property.

If Southport does gain a parish council all the significant decisions affecting Southport, such as town centre parking charges, bin collection arrangements and planning decisions, would still be made by Sefton Council.

So they want to increase the Council Tax £2 a week for what, so one of the snouts in the trough can call himself Mayor and claim even more expenses?

Pay for it out of party funds.

we have a parish council in Formby , they have to pick up and pay for the bits that that Sefton no longer want to do or pay for , so its an extra tax to get jobs done that would of been done in the past .... and another raft of hanger ons to support and vote for ! , been warned , vote NO

Without pounding the obvious to death, just note which breed want this unwanted, u needed extra tier.

NO we do NOT need or want another layer of bureaucracy dumped on us nor do we need another Mayor.
It is time local councillors did what we want instead of empire building for us to pay for No No NO !

Let's forget Council Tax. Bring back a form of community charge or local taxation where all adults contribute according to their circumstances.
